Are you shooting on APS-C and thinking about the Tamron 28-75? What's your situation?

Hello. I have a A6300 and only the lens kit. I am studying to buy another for vídeo. But I can't decide myself, because my câmera does not have stabilization and I am interested in a câmera f1.8 ou f2. Which lenses would you recommend? I more like a 1 lens person.

Sigma 30mm vs. Tamron 28-75. (At f2.8)

So instead of getting the 30mm f1.4 and the 56mm 1.4 from Sigma for my A6000, i whould likely get instead the Tamron 28-75 f2.8. I dont mind the slower f Stop, but for portraits and as all around use Lens, this whould be more then perfect for me. 😉

Hi bro, Do you think that tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and sigma 16 f/1.4 will make a good combination for Sony A6400 for photography? It lacks the IBIS on camera and steady shot on lenses, is it a huge deal? Please let me know your opinion. XD

My situation is:
I have a pair of APSC cameras with a plethora of APSC lenses.
I also have three full-frame Sony lenses: 85mm f/1.8, 70-200mm f/4 G OSS and the 24-70mm f/4 Vario-Tessar... I really like the first two lenses but run hot and cold on the Vario-Tessar.
I am going to add a used Sony A7Rii to my stable of cameras. My research indicates that for portraits and for landscapes, the A7Rii will serve me as well as an A7iii. I can land a used A7Rii for between one thousand and twelve hundred bucks on eBay. The APSC cameras are fine for action, I will seldom if ever shoot video...
I know that the 85mm f/1.8 and 70-200mm f/4 G OSS lenses will serve me very well on the A7Rii but, I am also sure that the Vario-Tessar is no where nearly sharp enough to use with a 42mp camera.
Enter the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens. I can sell the Tessar for say $400 and the Tamron is presently running $899 at Adorama. so for an extra five hundred bucks, I can set myself up with the Tamron which will be mainly used on the full frame body but, which will occasionally be used on the APSC bodies...

is there any significant loss of quality when using full frame lenses on apsc bodies? i do paid work on an a6000 and plan to move to an a7iii in the near future. i would like to invest in full frame glass right now but dont want to sacrifice too much quality while doing so. this method seems to make the most sense to me rather than buying a set of apsc lenses only to sell them off and buy a separate set of FE lenses

I'm kinda torn. I'm waiting on the A7000 but I want a good multi use lens for both photography and video. The 28-75 would be great if the camera was going to be full frame but since it's going to be aps-c, being forced to 42mm on the low end is just not super usable in close quarters for video especially. But the f2.8 is something I have wanted for a while and I know it makes a pretty big difference in low light scenarios. On the other hand the 16-70 giving a 24mm equivalent is certainly wide enough for anything I would need it for but then it's forced to f4. Are there any decent wide angled lenses for a few hundred bucks? I've been looking around and it seems to be lacking. Other than a few Sonys that cost well into 2 grand that is just not even feesable.

this is an intresting one, currently shoot on a a6300, photos and video, great little camera, in college making shorts and making some small money doing photoshoots, i want to upgrade to full frame, a7iii, mostlikley, however a good lens along side that body is a lot of money for a college student to pay, when its not paying for itself by doing vid or photo work, since i decided that the g master is not worth it over the tamron, visual comparison, the tamron performs amazingly side by side, sharper in the more telephoto side at f2.8, i wanted to get a 18-105 f4 for my apsc, but whats the point its basically kit lens quality nothing special is it, for 300 ish more i can get the tamron, and i own the sigma 30mm already, i could sell that and pick up the 16mm variant, to have a full kit, makes sense to me to do this over buying more apsc lenses, sice i want to upgrade in later 2019, thoughts ?

That’s not really true what you telling about the Tamron with the APS-C cam. You DON‘T have 28-75 and 2.8. When you multiply both with 1.5 you got the right values Dude...

Thanks for this video. Im currently waiting for the a7000 to transfer to sony and know where to start.
If the a7000 has IBIS it will be awesome.
If the a7000 will be very expensive im just going to pass on it and get the a6400 as I use a lavalier mic anyway so the popup screen is not a problem, AF is a beast and in that situation I would go with the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 and the Tamron 24-75 f/2.8 combo. That will let me vlog and have a good lens for everyday to capture all I need.
+ the tamron will have me covered when I upgrade to a a7rIII in the future (that's the goal atm)

Great video, good insight. Just wanted to say that people get so obsessed over the equipment sometimes that it becomes unhealthy. Thanks for not doing that and just giving us the real stuff. Have a nice day ;)

Hi, someone posted in a photograph group that this Tamron 28-75 is good on his a7iii after firmware update. But when it is used with his a6500, the AF still hunts with taking photos. Do you have that problem? If this is indeed a problem, then it would be quite bad with my a6000...

Great! Very useful analysis. I just tested my brand new Tamron ( ver.2 as shipped) on my a6500 and was thrilled with it . Seems like a dream pairing and the weight is better distributed than the 18-105 even though they are comparable. I have the Sigma 16f1.4 already and that does seem like a great small two lens travel kit! What a sweet lens for both full frame and APS-C.
Danny, from your experience, if you had both the a6500 and the a7iii what crossover lens combos would you recommend? I am thinking of traveling with both bodies and 'dual purpose' lenses. Feel free to mention any combo - not just the lenses discussed. Thanks, your discussions are always thought provoking!

As an ASPC commercial filmmaker that uses a gimbal, my 19 2.8 is the most common lens on my person. With that said, put the money towards a 16 1.4 and, the 28-75 would be perfect to cover whatever else you need for the price. The 24-70 f4 isn’t very sharp for $650+c and the 18-105 doesn’t always give you light that you need... plus it’s also a big lens that when shooting photos gives a bad distortion. The 28-75 2.8 is perfect to cover the rest of the field, especially portraits for aspc. Of course I have a 30 1.4 and 50 1.8 to cover my prime ranges.

The 28-75 2.8 has been statistically shown to be as sharp or sharper than its rival 24-70 2.8 G master on top of it being half the price. It would be optimally clear on a 6300, as it is also rated high when tested with an A7III, which is what matters when getting a lens of its price range. Definitely worth going in on that.
