Unraid 6.9 - Install & Setup a New Server or Upgrade an Existing One (2021)

Thanks so much for all of your awesome videos. I have learned so much and am super excited about setting up my personal server.

Question: I have 3xSSDs and 9 SAS HDDS - under (Pool Devices) Caching I called it Cache and under Slots: do I pick 3 because I have 3 SSDS attached? what does "Slot" under Add Pool device means? I would like to setup my NAS, PLEX Server and Vms. -I'm hoping use SSDs for performance when working on VMs for performance. is this correct?

You said we cant use ssd in the main array and that it needs to be mechanical... An external hard drive with usb 3 as its mechanical, should be ok for the main array or parity as long as the parity is the same size as the array? The reason I Ask is that I currently have the windows storage spaces and only have external hard drives and works fine, So I am expecting to use all ecternal drives for parity and array and the ssd for the cash

Great video, but i still can't figure out why none of my PCs will connect to the servers web interface. When i ping the unRAID server it pings it but there is a 100% packet loss. On the flip side if I boot back into windows the PCs network is fine and I transfer files just fine using windows file share and FileZilla

Only thing I don't understand is what's a cache pool and what's the point? I just assumed when you'd set it up the parity drive would be the main backup for the hardrives and that would be it. Why is the cache drive needed, just another waste of a bay.

I'm able to follow this tutorial up until the initial boot-up where I determine what my ip address is. It indicates "not set" under both IPv4 and IPv6. My mobo has a wifi antenna, but I'm unable to locate how to connect it to my router through wifi since I use my apartment complex's ISP. Should I re-do the unRAID usb flash creator to set my own static IP? Or figure out a way to connect it through LAN? Although the problem with the latter is that the router is not easily accessible.

"preclear disk" is gone? there is just "binhex-preclear" and "Unassigned Devices Preclear"

Hi i just started watching your video's about unraid 6.9.
I'm a pretty expierienced IT and Voip tech during the day, so i know unraid and other hypervisors pretty wel.
But i was seriously impressed by the quality and decent level of explenation during your video's. Keep up the good work mate, your knowledge about unraid is impressive!

Thanks for your detailed guide. Very useful for a beginner like me. Could you guide me on how to set a static IP address of the server? I heard you said that we could do this from the USB creation tool. But how?

FYI -> I cannot pass through my Nvidia Qudro P2000, unless boot is done with UEFI. MoBo is the Asrock x570 Extreme4.

Do you have to keep the flash drive always plugged into your server or is there a way to install unraid onto an internal SSD?

I have an intel i9-12900k, asus rog strix z690-f, 3 nvme ssds and 2 wd red hdd. When I load up unraid (even when i download preclear disks and unassigned devices plugins) none of my disks show up. The disks show in BIOS, Windows and Proxmox, but not i Unraid. I have tried the hard drives as uassigned and also formatted NTFS which makes no difference. There is no option to change SATA mode that I can tell from this up-to-date BIOS. Please help! I am looking to put my two 6TB HDD into RAID0 for maximum storage (yes I no there will be no redundancy) and one of my nvme as the cache.

Why has the cache drive been formated to btrfs? I though for a single disk pool it would use xfs? Also i heard the btrfs filesystem gets corrupted more often thatn xfs? Is this true?

Hi All, Does anyone have UnRaid running on ASUS Zenith II Alpha Extreme with 39xxX Threadripper? I am having serious issues with instability. Tried ZenStates, C States changed all sorts in the bios and l can't get past 24 hours without a freeze.

Hi, I don’t know what I did, years ago, but my bios is stuck on booting uefi; is it possible to go back to legacy or am i stuck forever now with uefi? When i try to boot legacy i get a boot drive error :-/

What if there is no option for legacy boot with the USB drive? I have legacy USB enabled on my Asus wrx80 threadripper motherboard, yet I only see Uefi USB option.

Hello SpaceInvaderOne ... you did a video on using unbalance, and high water to spin down un-used hard drives in the array until they are needed. I cannot for the life of me locate that video. Can you help me out?

When I updated it broke all my my custom network containers. I re added my custom network but when I try to put any of my containers on them it tells me no execute error not such container...

Finally got around to upgrading to 6.9. Thanks for all your videos, they've been a great help to me. Stupid question... I don't have the check for updates button on the plugins page and couldn't find a setting to turn it on... how the heck did you get that? 😂

Ive been watching a lot of videos on unraid. I was going to use SSDs (all the same) with two in the array and 1 for the parity. After watching this am i not able to use all SSDs? The machine im using does not have space for HDDs.

Do you have any videos showing how I'd go about moving my existing Unraid configuration from one server to another? Use case here being old hardware is outdated and want to move to another box completely with new CPU, motherboard, etc. but want to keep my existing configuration and data.

I am anxiously dreading the nearing end of Google Photos being free and desperately need a storage solution for my wife (an iPhone user) and myself (Android). I'd love to see a video on the best offerings for Unraid. I've tried a myriad of things (NextCloud, ResilioSync, Photoprism, Photosync, etc etc.) but I'd love to hear your take on it. Your channel started me on Unraid and has really helped me so much.
