crazy thing about what AMD did is, if intel made these chips they would have been $4500+ xeon platinums... AMD just put them out as cheap HEDT chips and absolutely destroyed the Xeon name for the foreseeable future lol. and the epyc chips.. well Intel just has no answer for those.

Main thing is - 10980xe was so expensive, and even once the price dropped, it's still more expensive than 3950x. The 10980xe is by the way the same processor as “previous gen” XEs

A friend recommended I get the Ryzen 7 3800 whch is an 8 core as the best bang for buck. I thought about it for a few days and decided to get the Ryzen 9 3950 as I thought I can afford it even if I may never use 32 threads. It’s a bit like replacing my 4 cylinder car with a V8 which I don’t need. However a reviewer called it “a beast” and I always wanted a beast. Side note: I copied some movies from my PVR but they have to be converted by Handbrake. It converted a 2 hr 20 min movie in 7 minutes instead of the 30 minutes or more. I’d finished converting all 16 movies in about an hour.

Finally dropped in price! It is now around 1000 AUD. But now 4th gen Ryzen is barely a few weeks away. I want to build a pc but I am waiting for Nvidia Ampere, RDNA 2 and this 4th gen Ryzen!

Get a Little Devil PC-V10 and use the built in Phase Change Cooling hardware that is part of the case(case comes in black or white and red on the inside) and see how you go.

Definitely can personally rate this CPU
Just built one in mini itx build and even with higher thermals due to the itx case. It is buttery smooth and doesn't miss a beat.
So glad I parted ways with my 5960x to upgrade.

No stable stock expected until near MID 2020 . Might as well just skip this generation all together and wait for Ryzen 4000 Or whatever Intel has up their sleeve, There's also Nvidia's rumored 3xxx series to be released in Q4 as well.

You said that th Threadripper chips still need to be put in game mode to give decent performance which is not true for the third gen CPUs. Other than that your review is great

In my experience the Ryzen 3000 series scales really well with temperature. Currently my 3800x runs 4.7ghz all core @ -5c chilled loop and I’m expecting when I install my new water pumps I’ll hit 5ghz all core. Currently I hold the 1st place position on Corona 1.3 and V-ray benchmarks for the 3800x.

Hey cool vid but @the R20 benchmark just doesn’t make sense sorry. 18c/36t @4.6 all core intel should be beating 16c/32t @4.3 for AMD. Maybe a naming issue? Ipc should be similar for these chips

I have another idea, how about we run it without overclocking it and have an extremely powerful, rock solid computer that practically never crashes and can run for weeks on end without a reboot.

That you say threadrippers need game mode conflicts with what other reviewers say, they say that 3rd gen threadripper no longer needs game mode.

gonna be 300 to 400 dollars more than retail price.....Amd fail....they cant meet demand....if you have no product to sell...no matter how good it is. Nah will stick with 9700k does a fantastic job. Not one single regret for over a year now. Maybe next year I will jump on Zen 3 when Amd has products for sale rather than for show.

The only problem is that, I ordered probably in the first hours of availability, but still unknown the delivery date. I have built the new host PC for that and is waiting here near me, without the CPU. Others, who started to order a bit later, they may missed the ordering also. At the end, until now there is no difference that you ordered or just couldn't order. ;)

Only Issue with ryzen 3950x is the 24 pcie lanes, limits your use of sli with multi nvme unlike 10980xe which has 48 pcie lanes.

Amd has really done good providing more cores advancing the PC market. Intel still good for mainly games but Amd has made the giant drop prices offer more cores. In the end both of them are companies trying to make money. Intel fighting Amd is good news for us because make it better for consumers.

I buy AMD since 2004, and happy with my product, had Phenom 2 black edition for like 10 years and it did its job even with the new games, changed to Amd Ryzen this year and happy with a product, temps are <50 Celsius with a default air cooler and there are plenty of overclock possibilities, having older graphics AMD r9 380, and overclocked it 5%, running smoothly in Metro Exodus. Windows starts in like 3-5 seconds. And whole price for the whole computer was only 800€. It beats in benchmarking intel / nvidia of the same price like nothing.
