Sermon by Ken Yates, Grace Evangelical Society
A Call to Be a Disciple
Mark 8:34-38
Introduction
There is a difference between being a believer and being a disciple. A believer has eternal life—that is absolutely free. A disciple is a believer who follows Christ. Being a disciple involves works and is not free. These verses deal with being a disciple. A disciple is one who learns to be like Christ.
- Jesus is speaking to believers (v. 34)
- Discipleship is available to all believers
- What will it cost you? (vv. 34-35)
- Is the cost worth it?

- What if the believer does not do it (v. 35)
- Which rewards should the believer desire? (vv. 36-37)
- The wise choice is obvious
- The Judgment Seat of Christ is coming!
- Shame and loss (v. 38)
