Frankensteined together 😂 I'm currently researching this role. I love design but I'm an introvert, is it constant social contact or do you get enough time to work quietly alone each day? Also, how do you cope with sitting all day? That's another thing I'm not sure about. Also thanks for acknowledging your luck and privileges, alongside your hard work. I'm 39 and single and one reason I'm interested in this career is I'm worried about supporting myself financially, as I don't have the luxury of a husband with a good job like most of my friends. I am deciding between going self employed in illustration and textile design which I love, but I'm scared I won't earn enough. I've been broke for years studying design courses (as I used to be a teacher before I had burn out). I'm really ready to start earning again and this time I want a good income.

“If you already know you want to be a UX designer and you want to get a computer science degree because it’s safer, why? Why are you so young and full of potential and already choosing your backup plan?” Oh god she’s calling me out lol I’m in school now for my CS degree. I guess I just thought that if I had that, regardless of where I want to go in my career, it would help me. So what should I do instead to get into tech and UX design? Do you recommend online certs?

Hi Charli curious if there’s any role out there that would actually support you to do both and if that’s possible do you see that as something stressful or financially rewarding or both? Curious to hear your thoughts

Could you clarify what you mean by creating a case study?

Also, what would you say is a average market salary for a entry level UX Designer who just got a Google certification with little experience and a small portfolio?

P.S. thank you for your videos, they’re very helpful!

Omg wow your story really hits home with me! In college when I was studying cs, I was a bit wishy-washy and considered pursuing design/art at first but I got inspired by other awesome female coders I knew and decided I wanted to challenge myself and pursue cs seriously, and even though cs was not my strong suit, I thankfully still got a swe job in a really awesome company, great culture and everything like how you described your past company. But yeah definitely, if you’re meant to do something, it should feel right for you, but for me swe has been a lot of anxiety and questioning. Hearing your story inspires me to take that leap to make a change :)

i used to dream that i will found an anime studio. I ended up deciding to become an ui/ux designer. I love to draw. I was gonna enroll into coding class. But teacher said you're good at drawing, you know about colors and stuffs, and he offered me to enroll ux/ui class lol. What a life, pretty unpredictable hahaha

Hello Charli, I truly enjoyed you video. It was the peep talk you gave that I needed. I gave myself similar peep talk to myself but after hearing it from you I made it more assuring that my decision and my intuition is valid. When it came to deciding what i want for my future and what I can do right now definitely has to do with a shift in you mindset. I have a background in art, horticulture, and basic C.S.. My interest in UX/UI all began for over 4 years ago because I love color theory and typography, problem solving, all i every wanted in a career. Yet I chickened out because I did not believe in myself and did not feel like i had the support of my family, Any time i get asked about my classes, i get so stressed out and want to take a break from my classes. I even signed up for a free 6 months course to become a full stack developer, I did not want to let the opportunity go to waste but each class I showed up to and each day that passed by i still couldn't get the logic of javascript to click. I took a long break and then I stopped showing to class. I was still thinking of pursuing UX. Two days ago I started searching for course in becoming a UX designer and got excited to learn again. After listening to your story has inspired my to buckle down and get to work. I want to create my case study by the end of the month. I currently work full-time, after work I just want to take a long nap because my job is emotionally draining *introvert struggles*, yet I still want to pursue UX design for a better sustainable future. This year has been all about self love and today I chose to pursue my dreams, starting with UX. Thank you for sharing this video =]

Love this video and your story!💕 I am currently a student doing my undergrad with an I-Design major (graphic design major but I get to choose my focus area) my focus area is technically and Interactivity and I have been in classes for computer science and data science. My goal is to become a ux designer and my major is helping me do that by learning about graphic design, ux design, and technological parts of design like computer science and data science! It is so great to hear about how your computer science skills are helping you with your ux design career!

if you're comfortable with it, would you be able to talk about things like imposter syndrome and self-confidence? I personally struggle a lot with imposter syndrome and just question whether I'll be a good UX Designer. I'm currently self-teaching with online resources but my mind is struggling with unlocking any potential I have.
