What an idol and role model for our younger generations then..
A general on the pitch, who could do everything, he was efficient, silent, composed, slick, tough and like a father or big brother figure for his teammates and he helped take the Portuguese team to great accomplishments.
Portugal really looked like the Brazil of Europe at that time, "exotic", oozing with talent, flair, attractive style of play and Luis I believe held that all in balance.
Great work on taking us back to those beautiful carefree afternoons of those summers. Well done on having an iconic career, Luis..

Very well spoken. I always say the 90's had better footballers than now. Very skilled with good technical ability. A lot of countries had such technically gifted players as well. Today's football is just about passing to death and running. It really annoys me. Only the Portuguese and Spanish really play exciting football now with good technical ability. There's a reason i enjoyed watching Luis Nani playing always. He reminded me of the football i saw growing up.

i was 16 in 2004, i am greek. most people used to shout a chant about figo that was very disrespectful and at that time as a kid i thought it was funny, now being 36 it makes me sad on how disrespectful it was, figo deserved more respect, especially from us.

My football idol when i was a kid. and then, i had the chance to meet him in Madrid few years ago. He's a gentleman on and off the pitch. top respect to him.

I loved the spirit of Portugal when they lost it and 2 players were sent off. I loved them even more after that. Feisty, red hot and full of passion, pride. What a great team that was and i felt sorry for them all.

Tyan Booth would be great on TV or radio. He is so funny, an ex boxer and jermaine Pennants cousin. He would be great on talksport, far better than Simon Jordan especially on boxing programme.

Thank you Figo! You taught me how to play football along with Zidane and Ronaldo. When the three of you retired, I lost my interest to watching and playing football.

As a Greek, I had mixed feelings when we won, one of my three favourite players wouldn't win a Euro at the same time we were winning it.

I became a Football fan in 2000. In the summer, Portugal had a great Euros spearheaded by Figo, Rui Costa and João Pinto and I still remember that game vs England. On the Club side, we had an electrifying Karel Poborsky at Benfica
