This video so speaks to me. My senior year in high school (1989) if you hadn't seen Heathers you probably would not have been able to follow a single sentence said by my group of friends. Since almost everything we said was either a quote or a reference to Heathers.

Part of the problem today is shallow thinking. So much of what is in the news, so much of what some people and some politicians say is so far from reality - and basically thoughtless (not thinking through what they're actually saying or espousing) -

That they become a parody, a satire of themselves.

We have reduced such serious issues as bullying, gun violence, etc to thoughtless talking points - that they become knee-jerk reactions.

We couldn't have some '80s satires now because many would not understand the satire. They would only glance at what they see and react (either they own reaction or how they've been told to react).

Satire can delve into serious issues by twisting them just enough to inflict weighty, thoughtful commentary on the underlying issue.

So many today cannot have an in-depth conversation about topics they themselves say they believe in (or are against).

Shallow thinking kills satire.

I'd love our college to put it on, but at the same time, we have had shooters and bomb threats in local city council meetings which are held on campus and I just know our dean would axe this in a second.

Just saw this a couple days ago. I do NOT believe this is a dark comedy. This is an Alfred Hitchcock-style THRILLER. I found virtually nothing in it funny. But it was mesmerizing. However, I can't see myself ever wanting to watch it again.

I had no idea this was a "controversial film." How absurd. Also it is absurd that you can't say "the 's' word" at YT now. They are making communication impossible. Thank you for not using a high-pitched, deafening beep in place of disallowed words.

Fortunately i saw HEATHERS on big screen when originally released. And in the years since its release it hasnt lost any of its bite. Ryder in a true star turn and slater channeling his inner jack make the film really click. When compared to the anodyne crap that passes for inventive and edgy entertainment HEATHERS really is superb.

Eye brows were raised at the fact that I've seen this in the comedy section and Practical Magic of videostores. It's like if American Psycho was in the comedy section. Art pushes boundaries. This is the kind of art that sure created something everyone can have a different view and opinion on.

I had a girl at my schoold commit s+icide and the same thing in heathers happened. EVERYONE pretended to know her and EVERYONE glorified it when they could have helped her in the first place. While tragic, Its unfortunately common. because its so common thats what made it dark humor.
