How to repair on trail hydraulic disc brakes
Ответить😢I have mechanical disc brakes and I can hardly adjust them perfectly
Ответитьwho saw davie 🤫
ОтветитьNeither
ОтветитьInteresting video, but not very scientific, far too many variables to be accurate.
ОтветитьOlder style cable brakes (good ones) are better than mechanical brakes.
Ответитьi use mechanical. i have an engwe engine x that had the standard 160mm front and rear rotors and changed to 203mm. much better braking and i dont have to worry about bleeding, leaking fluid etc. i prefer simplicity.
ОтветитьI have a cheep Ancheer bike from Amazon and thought it took forever to stop but seeing this I realized that at 20 mph the stopping distance might not be that bad. But whatever I do I can not get the back brake to bite hard enough to lock up. lock up.
ОтветитьI have a cheap Chinese 20” fold
The default wire disc break is starting to noisy and softly, recently I just change it with mt200. It much solid and quiet.
I would recommend anyone who has a cheap bike with disc brake mod this.
nice vid man ,keep up the good work
Ответитьhmmm I might be off here but could the rotor temperature be a factor?
ОтветитьI can't believe you escaped arrest by a karen for drawing on her pavement.
ОтветитьThanks a zillion. Very informative. Great job
Ответитьi will point out that with new pads, they need to be burned in before they reach peak performance
ОтветитьGreat video! 😮 What about using only hydraulic calibers with the original brake cables? Thanks 😊
ОтветитьThx for taking the time to experiment and show the information
ОтветитьMechanical all the way 180mm rotors, simple, reliable,
ОтветитьDon’t be cheap when buying brakes. Look for the best and buy them. If you can’t afford good brakes save your money till you can buy them. Also have front and rear brakes don’t only get one or the other. Your life can depend on them. Ride safe.
ОтветитьMy brake calipers outright broke on my ebike. Are hybrid calipers worth it? (Lever to caliper is mechanical, caliper is hydraulic) I can't afford a whole hydraulic system and I don't feel like routing the cables all over again. My only requirements are durability under heavy load and the ability to bind my rear wheel on demand
ОтветитьAre you able to add disk brakes to legacy mountain bike, like 1994 GT Tequesta?
ОтветитьSo what's the conclusion per your test, hydraulic or mechl type of brakes? We only used mech no brand as Shimano is high
ОтветитьI was about to upgrade but after consideration, I’m going to buy a pack of cables with nicer fixings and a new set of pads. Most of my annoyance with my setup is just it’s been a while since I took it all apart and redid it.
ОтветитьV brakes worked fine
ОтветитьWhat is your opinion of mechanically actuated hydraulic brakes?
ОтветитьThank you for this. Im gonna try metallic pads
ОтветитьErp... I'll stick with motorcycles....
Instructor here, my student's "standard", no abs stop is 23' from 20 and that is only .5G...
I can do it without engaging ABS from 20 in 10 feet...
A top of their game biker with max upgrades is an additional 10+ feet from my worst passing student?! Terrifying!
I'd happily waste my money every time by choosing hydraulic over mechanical. The feel of the brake action is better if nothing else.
Ответитьhah, in the UK, the front brake is on the right lever, not the left.
ОтветитьDon't you have to change calipers if you go to bigger rotors?
ОтветитьInconsistent braking force, different points where braking starts, "feel" as a description of a result... lot of job to get not much of a true and fair result
ОтветитьHydraulic brakes. Nothing else.
ОтветитьThe higher end rotors, pads and hydraulics will standout on very long downhill. It can sustain tremendouz amount of heat, it can cook eggs literally on low medium.
ОтветитьDid you broke in the Break Pads before the tests
ОтветитьI've compared both types, not just for myself but also for my wife and child and hydraulic wins every time. Ease of use, stopping power, modulation... Everything is better.
What I haven't tested yet are cable actuated hydraulic disc brakes, they might be a decent compromise...
Bad break installs have problems learned that from expirience my younger brother left the cable of my rear brake looser than my homeboy rolling a spliff😂 Almost got hit by a car and ended up in a ditch 😂
ОтветитьFront brake on right hand ... the cheapest hack
ОтветитьAfter almost getting in an accident due to malfunctioning brakes, I've spent 160 bucks to replace them by hydraulic Shimano Deore. I never thought brakes can work so effectively as my new hydraulic set.
ОтветитьIdk I just got bike with hydraulic breaks, they feel kind of meh in terms of responsiveness, the levers are quite mushy or how else to call it.
ОтветитьIn my opinion, it is best to downgrade to the bare minimum, because you only need to stop an object that uses narrow wheels and weights 10 Kg like an average bike, plus the weight of an average rider like most of us, unless the rider is big, or the terrain/tire is super grippy (like rocks), it should be ok to downgrade to a simpler/lighter/cheaper system. If you can lock the wheels in grippiest terrain while you are riding normally, then you have achieved the maximum braking power that you need. You dont really need more braking power if you go to a flat road like the one shown.
Ответитьwhy are you trying to "brake"with the CLUTCH ?
DOH
my bad
dual front disc up front are awesome
even with a crappy drum on rear
The one big thing missing here: The heating of rotors an break pads is totally ignored. This is what makes a huge difference between cheap and expensive systems. And you need it for longer declines I can tell.. yjust saying..
ОтветитьMT200 --> next cheap upgrade would be the MT520 that have twice the number of pots, and larger braking surface.
Ответитьi Have used v brakes all my life apart from using disk brakes on my motorbikes the idea of putting disks on a bike is really stupid unless it has a motor. for maintenance seriously why put disks on a bike on a mountain bike seriously if you have a wobble and drop the bike pray you don't bend anything or you have no brakes or worse your walking with your bike.
ОтветитьI have a hydraulic in the rear and a mechanical on the front :/
ОтветитьI find that for flat bar, it isn't a big difference although hydraulics still are ahead. For drop bars, the difference is more starking as hood position could make it hard to apply force to lever compared to flat lever if the fingers are short. I wouldn't consider mechanical brakes on drop bars at all for safety.
Ответитьhidraulic brakes also just feel very good to use, you only really need one finger on the brake levers to use its 100% capability, allowing for the rest of the fingers to be holding on the bar, something very useful for mountain biking.
