Of all Communists countries, China coped better with the rough and tumble of western ideals- rights v wants la dee da. If you are not interested with the nuts and bolts of politics, Beijing is like Sydney- all major conveniences served up par excellence. Places like Vietnam, a communist country still have a long way to go, and in respect to China opening up to the rough and tumble world of western ideals- credit is where credits due- it's no Copenhagen by a long shot, but neither is it Pyongyang.

I personally wouldn't advise anyone to come to live here unless they are willing to learn the language a bit.
You're absolutely right about being able walk about at night without fear, but if you don't know the language there are plenty of people who'll be willing to take your money off you simply by ripping you off.
Even buying a meal. If you have to eat where the foreigners eat, you'll pay twice as much for the privilege. And if you can't chat to the locals and know what they are saying about you, what's the point in that?
It's worth finding a school and getting a student visa.

2 kinds of foreigners in China one was optimistic open minded full of hopes just like u , the other one was , bitter, RACIST, ,arrogant , self esteem always find something to complain for ex. take pictures with the lokal , queuing, loud sounds, If u are open minded willing to learn and mix with other cultures, China could be an easy ,safe , luxurious place for u ,if u are a bitter ,RACIST person pls. don't come to China or get out of China !

It is true that there are many homeless people in the United States, but the overall living standard of the American people is much higher than that of China. Many people in China are just out of poverty.

The reason why the Constitution of the United States stipulates that Americans have the right to own guns is because they do not want a strong government to put pressure on the people. On the surface, China is safer than the United States. However, the Chinese government can persecute the people at will. How many Chinese people have been persecuted and killed by previous political movements!

I really like how you described China using noise as an analogy, especially with regards to news media. Western media likes to smear Chinese media by saying it's "state controlled" propaganda, blah, blah, blah. But from my observation as an outsider, Chinese media doesn't sensationalize things. They just report it as is & focus more on optimism and positivity. Unlike the news here, it's shocking attention grabbing headlines, doom & gloom, catastrophe & anxiety inducing news report how everything is turning into a crisis! Then there are the asinine tabloid stories about other people's sexual escapades 😑. It's all about "woke" or "cancel" culture. Point I'm trying to make is, the noticeable difference in China is that they value harmony & social stability over constant bickering & drama.

As always, agree with your perceptions and insights on life in China. Safety is the biggest difference between China and the United States. In fact, after living in China, I no longer want to return to the US. It doesn’t mean I “dislike” or “disapprove” of the USA. I just feel it isn’t a good choice for me any longer. Happy to say I was recently offered a promotion and can stay in Beijing at least two more years.😊

I know what you mean. From UK
When I go abroad to Asia I have to adjust to these things.
I'm too cautious about other people, the surroundings and what I might do wrong.
You have to get use to a different kind of freedom in China.

Perhaps it’s more quiet or calmer because Chinese still practice “propriety”, like respect for elders or being considerate or stuff like handing things to you with both hands, but this is slowly disappearing; the western culture of using only one hand is creeping in, the culture of individualism.😢I hope it’ll not be overwhelmed by western influence because it would be a pity.😢
