Red-right-returning does not mean that you go to the right. That means you keep the red buoy on the right side of your vessel and you go to the left of it
ОтветитьThis video is so bad I only made it to the 2 minute mark
ОтветитьDepoe Bay Harbor Oregon (Famous for One flew over the Cuckoos Nest). One vessel at a time and you have to time open ocean swells and navigate the rocks 10 ft. to either side.
ОтветитьOregon Inlet on the east coast and the Columbia river inlet on the west have historically been known as the most difficult inlets by most! The coast guard have their most robust training vessels at each inlet!
Ответить"The things I saw on the Columbia River that night will forever stay me because of their monstrous dimensions." -Ron Jansson
A quote from Commander Wilkes, US Navy (ca. 1860) sums it up nicely: “Mere description can give but little idea of the terrors of the bar of the Columbia; all who have seen it have spoken of the wilderness of the ocean and the incessant roar of the waters, representing it as one of the most fearsome sites that can possibly meet the eye of a sailor.”
I can speak for the bar, I was stationed at CG station Cape Disappointment. I have seen first hand what mother nature will throw at you when she gets angry ..and it can happen in minutes. It'll go from calm 4-6' rollers to 15+ in a matter of minutes, it's a beautiful place but it is not a place to be messed with.
I have a lot of friends that lost their boats in the charleston harbor
Ответитьboring video...
ОтветитьThey refer to the South Lake Worth Inlet (Boynton Inlet) but show a video of the Palm Beach Inlet in its place! Wrong!!!
ОтветитьI crossed the Colombia river bar a few days ago!
ОтветитьI've been out at #6 Oregon Inlet and it scared the hell out of me! Was really happy when Captain got us through that as the waves were huge that day.
ОтветитьIs Charlie sheen the narrator
ОтветитьVery familiar with barnegat inlet. Going out in rough weather is tough. But coming back in rough weather is the real challenge
ОтветитьWe used to call Indian River inlet the jackhammer, because it will pound you into the rocks the minute you screw up, and with a big boat that's about all you have with engine failure,a minute or two till your in trouble.
ОтветитьI been in and around commercial fishing my entire life. I went fishing on 16 bass boat in the biggest lake in my state and I live on Gulf Coast, its a Brackish water lake. The wind was at 7 mph to the west, and the swells were throwing that bass boat around.
ОтветитьOnly ships need a bar pilot for the Columbia and it’s not just because of the bar it’s because of the channel up the river. The channel is narrow and we get ships stacked up waiting in line to get a pilot. We’ve taken a 12’ boat with a 9.9 over the bar a couple times and it wasn’t really that bad
ОтветитьOnly US has inlets..other countries doesn't have one 😢
ОтветитьNo! Red right returning does NOT mean keep to the right when returning. It means keep THE BUOY TO THE RIGHT when returning. It’s the opposite of what you said.
ОтветитьHaulover Inlet isn't is as bad as they make it sound ! Valentino Boats has a 52 footer that dominates the Oregon Inlet. Which will prove the same for all the rest.
ОтветитьIn 74 I got to take the wheel of a 78 foot Longline steel boat over the Columbia Bar on a outgoing tide. The Bar was closed because of a big storm ravaging the Oregon coast in Nov. 74.
It took 2 attempts to get back over the Bar about 3 weeks later. The whirlpools, and large waves coming from every direction was insane!😅
Our boat came within yards of being tossed on the jetty rocks! We made it out a few hours later and survived the huge storm and delivered the boat to it's owner in Seattle Washington..
Last repro job for me!😅
I live in a hill overlooking the number 2 one. The Greymouth bar. Seen dead people on beach, upturned boats, a single fisherman's gumboot, yeah, its a beauty. I've been out on one of the boats in the vid. The Cook Canyon... Puked the whole way in
ОтветитьIf you cant handle an INLET you need a new hobby
ОтветитьRed right return means keep red buoys on your right. DO NOT go right of them
ОтветитьMoriches inlet ny
ОтветитьRed right return definitely does not mean what you said!
You said "if you see a red buoy keep to the right"
The correct instructions are: " if you see a red buoy keep the buoy to your right"
Anyone who followed your instructions would be outside of the safe channel
I've fished out of West Port, which is Gray's Harbor, north of the Columbia River..... and even that bar can be rough! My dad was a deckhand for a charter fishing boat and I've gone out many times. It's a 55ft boat, made for that kind of weather....and I still managed to get nearly washed overboard 😶
15ft rolling waves are the biggest (they aren't the 30+ Deadliest Catch type waves) but, when the wind is bad, you're facing those 15ft rollers as they break over the bar.... it gets a bit rough.
Astoria area, though (the Columbia River Inlet)....that is a a scary bar to cross. My dad fishes there all the time, though. 🤷♂️
off topic but, incidently: Sig Hansen from Deadliest Catch used the charter fishing company my dad worked for when he wanted to go recreational fishing. 👍
Lmao, haulover is no where near that bad.Theres plenty of water,no shoals and its only on outgoing tides with an east wind when haulover gets bad and then you dont go.Ive been running haulover for 20+ years and never had an issue
ОтветитьLook into San Louis Pass. Southwest of Houston 👍🏽
ОтветитьHyperbolic video...
ОтветитьRed right return, keep the red on your right side not to the right of the red.😂
Ответитьshould check out some of the inlets and harbour bars in nz, like Mt Manganui
ОтветитьDo your homework and find out about inlets around the world or Eliminate a couple of them and title s/b East US coast inlets
ОтветитьI've used the Boyton Beach Inlet hundreds of times to go scuba diving. Not too dangerous going out, but if there are seas above 3 feet and you're coming in it funnels the waves together into these really steep rollers. The dive boat (Loggerhead) I used to go out on actually went stern over bow coming in one time. I wasn't on it though. But it was underpowered and couldn't go faster than the waves.
ОтветитьYou way over inflate most this video. Former USCG. However the Columbia river inlet that is dangerous.
ОтветитьIf you need to be the best of the best of the best at Haulover someone should tell the people that boat there!
ОтветитьI do wonder why you show downtown Tampa and call it St. Lucie Inlet. It also looks like the Indian River bridge sure looks like the Sunshine Skyway in St Petersburg as well.
ОтветитьOrgan Inlet , North Carolina striped bass?????????????
ОтветитьJust found this site...subd!!
ОтветитьThere's a reason why the US Coast Guard trains coxswains on the Columbia Bar.
Also affectionately called Cape Disappointment.
Semper Paratus
Haulover isnt dat dangerous lol, just don’t go slow
ОтветитьThe Haulover inlet is brutal, the jetties are designed the wrong way
ОтветитьHallover ?? Just ask the Captains of the little Boston Whalers, they make it look easy..
ОтветитьThe first time I crossed the columbia river bar, Illwaco, I was about 12, in a 17 ft Olympic. Was pretty spooky for a kid. My dad was nuts. When he wanted to go fishing he went. The Westport bar is pretty crazy also. North of the Columbia. I have crossed that one also. Low tide at either and a swell is sketchy.
ОтветитьThis video is retarded. I've been through all of these inlets, none of them are any big deal other than the Columbia river bar. Never been to New Zealand so I don;'t know about that, but all these Florida inlets are butter, and no mention of Ponce inlet which is known to be the worst.
ОтветитьI came here for the comments after listening to one minute of a landlubber blabbering on about stuff he obviously knew precious little about. Thanks Guys and Girls, ya'll didn't disappoint ;)
ОтветитьВсегда удивляло, а после этого видео еще больше. Как сёрферы не боятся стихии.
ОтветитьThese inlets are used hundreds if not thousands of times a day without incidents , the narration of “a collision is pretty much impossible” is ridiculous. Watch “Boat Zone”s channel, it does get really rough sometimes and sometimes boats sink but by far its a rare thing. I hate these channels that jsut spew BS with zero fact in the video.
ОтветитьAhhh. Hang on. Did I count only one outside of the US? Hmmm🤔
