This is easy on a wide open trail, you are going almost completely sideways for a long time after each turn. It's idealistic to say it's possible carve every turn, especially on narrow or choppy terrain

I thought I was doing it wrong but after watching this video it’s confirmed! It’s just like dancing guys! Ever since I’ve started snowboarding I unconsciously been doing this haha and I’m so proud of myself because I’m learning on my own and it’s about listening to your body ❄️ let’s goooo

Nah. You're a good rider, but your example footage was of you making wide gradual turns. If you were making tighter turns you would do the arm thing too.

auto translate:
Let's watch the Snowboard Parallel Slalom competition and see that ALL participants ride with their body turned forward. Of course, you won’t be able to ride so comfortably because you have a freestyle stance, so you can’t be categorical that turning your body is wrong, it all depends on your riding style. Turns by rotating the body are also controversial; it is more effective and correct (especially at speed) to load the edge of the board, this is done by transferring weight either to the edge, or beyond the edge if speed allows.

I've been snowboarding a few times and I'm pretty comfortable now, but I never had formal lessons. Just got back from a day on the mountain and my knees were killing me. Besides getting old, I knew something must be wrong with my form. This video highlights my exact problem. Returning up in a few days and now I'm going to be hitting some bunny slopes to practice good form.

Funniest thing I was told when learning to snowboard "longboarding won't help you"... your body being in sync is part of the basics, and exactly what helped me get riding my first day. Proud to say I landed my first 180 that day (and busted my ass riding off in pride...) when most thought I wouldn't even be riding...

TLDR: Great advice, short and simple delivery =D

I would believe you... except i've been snowboarding for 20 years now and I believe its fine to have a bit of an open stance where your shoulders are pointed in the direction of travel. Am I wrong? I doubt it because Travis Rice snowboards this way, go analyze his style.

Worth noting that stance angles play a role were too. I run a fairly aggressive posi posi stance for carving so naturally my hips are not in line with my board - my whole body is opened up a little more and facing downhill than when I'm riding with a posi neg stance.

Fantastic as always. Can you help/show a video of these types of turns when you’re on a narrower run, and without the luxury of big wide open turns. The tips help me on open fields, but busier fields and less space bring in my bad habits again :(

You can tell who surfed before learning to snowboard based on this. And when snowboarders start surfing their style on a surfboard is absolutely terrible because of this!
I had to fight my surf style and keep my shoulders aligned to the snowboard, it works so much better.
Thanks for the reminder, great tips.
What are your tips about going through moguls though?

Ive been snowboarding for years but as i get older i find that i was getting tired faster and thighs worn out quick… im thinking maybe my form got astray and i think i do snowboard a lot out of alignement at times.. wonder if thats what make you tired quicker…. Tho in alignement i feel you are more prone to fall on icy terrains . Out of alignement is easier to manage where there is ice i find. Your grip is less comited and you can adjust faster

That’s probably why I’m so uncomfortable riding switch. I really can’t seem to help it. If my shoulders are aligned with the board, my board’s turning toe side. It may be due to my bum front leg.
