How to derestrict a 50cc scooter / moped Make it go Faster

That is NOT a moped,it is a scooter. A moped has pedals and a scooter has a floorboard

It retards the ignition (spark). Additionally if you have a 2 stroke models they often put restricters in the exhaust especially in 125 models so the only way to get around that is to cut it take out the restricter in the exhaust and weld it back up or buy a sports exhaust which are free from the cone restricters they put in.

I brought some cleaning solution from a motorbike retailer and put it in when I filled up. About 1 - 2 days later I'm having trouble with acceleration, barely making it to 10 to 15 mph! Could the reason be that it's dislodged so much gunk it's choked up the carburettor?!? Any help needed as I'm at my wits end with this bike! Also, how to "fix" the electric start on it. When you hold the left brake while holding the electric starter, it is turning over, trying to start but it seems to be missing that last bit of "Omph!" Please help!!! 🤬😤🤪👍🏻

You only really need to cut the wire (wich isnt always pink, check with your scoots forums). But if you really want higher top speed you need to mess a bit with the CVT (the thing that gets the power from the engine to the wheel) plus this is a better option than messing with the engine because it wont explode on you. To get the best results you'd probably want to get aftermarket Pulleys that will be adjusted for higher top speed, but beware it will be not the cheapest and may decrease acceleration (from what i understand theres a sort of pin that u can replace with a smoothed down one and thats kinda cheap its just im not sure if all scoots have this nor how affective it is).


Strongly recommend to not mess with the engine as it has a bunch of controls that are desgined to specifically work with factory ratios. The moped will run weirdly and can have problems, i can say because i had a moped with an aftermarket cdi that let me rev more and the piston rings blew up on it. Biggest recommendaition is to just drive it for most of the seasson and only at the very end to do stupid stuff.

Don't bother all you will do is lose resale value which will cost you more to buy a 125 cc when you are 17 with the cost of CBT plus insurance. A chicken chase will only chase ( slightly) faster chickens. This may make you scoot slower.

So you have removed the regulation and weakened the mixture which will require the carb to be rebalanced. Great fun but you are now uninsured in any circumstances you use it. A canny cop has only to look at the ignition system and if you have an accident everyone of us with motor insurance pays your victim. That is why you are limited to a low powered motorcycle to start with and why it becomes so expensive for you to move up the motorcycle tree. The future of your transport is in your hands.

What is the "pink wire controlling"?
I've heard of the 6 pins the following way:
1. Blue/Yellow - trigger wire
2. Yellow/Black - coil feed
3 & 4 Green - ground
5. White/Black - kill switch
6. Red/Black - power AC or DC

You made the engine run weaker ! Clip moves down the richen mixture and up to weaken .....but neither will effect top rpm , needs a main jet change for that

My wife used to have a Yamaha CW 50. When it needed a new exhaust for the MOT, they installed one with a larger hole on the manifold flange. Just doing that increased the max speed to around 40MPH. We didn't touch anything else.

The rpm sensor is very important for the proper engine work, cutting it off will cause a flying piston, cause there won't be a redline for the rpm. If you really want to make your scooter faster, just buy larger main jet.

Tampering with the needle has no effect on top speed.

In Virginia, if a scooter exceeds 35 MPH, it is not a sooter any longer and has to be operated by a person with a motorcycle license and has to be registered and insured as a motorcycle. the engine displacement is nullified under state law.
