When I was a kid, Stark did 100 years of The Hindu ad (for someone I cant remember). I was wonderstuck. I wanted to be in that industry then. I believed stark could never go wrong. It was as if they were Herculean Megatrons of Indian ad Industry. I remember when those wonderful wonderful ads appeared in readers digest for Kerala Tourism. The one featuring a calm serene pious houseboat and comparing it to the regular traffic one has to endure to survive a day in a city. Soothing Copy it had. Another one similar -that showed an actual Koavalam Beach.

Now it has come to this. I cant say I am not moved but this is not me. This is not my land. I dont want you to come to my land seeing, sensing, feeling this ad.
I do not deny the magnificence of this creation - but it fails to absorb the juice of my land and emit an aura of beauty.

My land is green, bright, welcoming, hospitable, accommodating, approachable and most of all, empathetic. (Remember the failed bit by Shyamaprasad featuring Suraj in Kerala Cafe?) We accept change. We are not hard on on insisting that you bend your ways to spend a few days on mother natures lap here in a valley or close to the sea. We speak your language. We don't bother if you rode your Royal Enfield all the way from Punjab to Kerala for a smoke. Our Policemen smile and wave you good luck when they see your number plate. Our roads(even though in not good shape) accommodate your twin carriages from Netherlands. We cook and eat variety of meat but make sure you ask first. Most of all, we speak English. We serve premium tea and coffee born in our own estates. We have equally developed urban and rural areas throughout the state. We have elephants :D and we have big hearted human beings(homo sapiens).

Best of all - cost factor. I dont have fancy words to put this across. If you earn in Dollars or other foreign currency, you better spend it here on a vacation. You wont regret it.

Disclaimer: I live in Seattle, WA.

I think people are silly to criticize this video so harshly. The video is a brilliantly shot, beautiful piece of artwork that is EXTREMELY INTRIGUING. It made me want to LEARN about Kerala (which i subsequently did). If you can intrigue people, they will do the rest of your work for you. No one goes straight to booking a trip after seeing a tourism ad. They become interested and begin to research

Lovely concept. Your video is telling clearly that why Kerala is known as God's Own Country. I'm working on Jaipur tourism, so I do understand the importance of this video. Good work. Keep it up.

It's a very artistic and visually interesting commercial, but it doesn't capture the essence of the Kerala I know and love.

Foreigners abandon Kerala. Kovalam has gone stale. "While we are stuck in past glory, our competitors within the country & outside have reinvented themselves," - Air Travel Enterprises CEO and Chamber of Commerce president EM Najeeb. Waste mounts are accumulating all around and the stink is unbearable. Kerala also failed to figure in top 10 domestic destinations. The Tourism Department, too, seems to be resigned to fate. The Kovalam Development Agency, has now become defunct.
