Interwar aircraft are one of my favorites, and he seems to strike gold with them.
Did I ever tell you that the giant 3 wing aircraft is a actual Caproni aircraft? Too bad it died taking off..
incredible video! thank you so much!

ОтветитьOne of the point made by Miyazaki, his opinion on mecha animes being infantile and often neglecting the pilot itself is such a great point that also indirectly shows why Evangelion was one of the best mecha animes of its era, still holding up with that title. They don't focus just on the mechas and the robots, but the emotional burden and emotion that the pilots are put under, and the psychological nightmares the protagonists have to suffer through. It's real, it's heavy, it's there.
ОтветитьI don't know why I waited several years to watch this after putting it in my watch later playlist. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into this.
ОтветитьTechnology isnt inherently good or bad 'Charles Eisenstein'
ОтветитьWhat the what!? Didn't expect to run into this. Glad I did.
ОтветитьSuck me . Brought to you by nord vpn that doesnt work in asia and del toro quote at start .. fml you are pathetic.
ОтветитьExcellent edit! Seamlessly bouncing between all of Miya's films illustrates your points very well. This was a joy to look at!
ОтветитьEnglish dub 🤢
ОтветитьThere is no discussion about Hayao Miyazaki's best movie.
But the best for me is Porco Rosso.
"Bulkish Ugly things" dude really thinks his view is objective over others. I absolutely love machines of war of all types, so I like ugly stuff? Btw, the machines of war he showed in the movies of Miyazaki are absolutely beautiful the heck he's talking about? Edit: btw he watches these things dubbed? Wtf
ОтветитьBeautiful video.
Thank you
make one movie as many times as you want
ОтветитьThank you for this explanation of Miyazaki!! Ive always loved his work but I never put all this together.
ОтветитьThe part of how Machines are also used for bad reminds me of how Santos Dumont commited suicide after his inventions started being used for bad
ОтветитьWhen I manage to write my own original story if God wills , I want it to feature the same details in mechanical contraptions that Miyazaki demonstrates in his movies

in movies like ''porco rosso'' or ''the wind rises'' we can see in some scenes lots of different planes in all colors and sizes, this makes me think the creativity and dedication that someone would need to do such extravagant designs only for a scene that lasts around 10 seconds, all this proves how Myazaki was a genious behind the camera
ОтветитьNausicaä's jet glider is still my favourite
ОтветитьShowing a clip from Gundam while saying "neglecting the person operating the machine" is rather ironic, don't you think?
Ответитьwaiting for Vol. 2
ОтветитьMöwe and Goliath are still among my favorite fictional aircraft designs.
ОтветитьI was glad to hear about someone else who has read the nausicaa manga
ОтветитьI love Wing Raises, not only because it’s a beautiful story, but also reflected my own personal struggle when trying to become an aerospace/aeronautical engineer… the film also was pretty accurate to the real man, minus the sick/dead wife parts. (Although his wife was very supportive during the struggle)
ОтветитьMovies like Porco Rosso make you appreciate the dedication and passion some people have for what they love and showering everyone what makes that truly special, as an Italian and someone who's passionate about the history of the accomplishments of my nation it just makes me smile to see the homages Miyazaki has payed for aviation and the aviation of my homeland too, which is very often overlooked, yet many of our records and achievements are still held unbeaten to this day and spark wonder in the hearts of many newcomers to the topic who discover them
ОтветитьThats nicely done! Thanks
ОтветитьSo his career is defined by his attempt to reconcile his love for flight, father, and machines thereof, against his father's direct involvement to improve aviation's ability to more efficiently bring death and destruction and whether or not the world is ultimately a better place despite aviation's negative consequences?
ОтветитьArtisically beautiful, imaginative and inventive. I love his creations, particularly those huge flying machines. His graphics of real aircraft, like the Zero and other early aircraft masterly - just perfect.
ОтветитьI freaking love Miyazaki’s airships!
ОтветитьHonestly this video should've just been an assessment about porko Rosso, cause he spends most of the time just talking about that movie and it's deeper meaning about flying planes.
ОтветитьThat was beautiful. Thank you. And, since it is not mentioned in your vid and I couldn't find a comment on it:
All planes in ”The Wind Rises” are historic designs that were actually built! And Caproni is a historical person (I’m not sure about the quotes Miyazaki puts in his mouth), and many of his actual designs are in the film.
I hate how really good Japaneses animated films get beaten by crappy western animated movies in the Oscars.
Ответитьessay successful
ОтветитьI know I'm gonna be criticized, but I think that The wind rises isn't a good movie, really ! It has no solid storytelling, nor structure, nor strong and interesting characters. It's just a compendium of Miyazaki's obsessions, but it clearly lacks the appeal his first movies had. Even Ponyo on the cliff and Howl moving castle, despite their prowess in term of direction have poor confusing stories with no real conflicts. Beeing directed by Miyazaki is a label that immediately make both the audience and the critics in admiration and if you say that his last movie isn't that good, Blasphema ! Same with Tim Burton or James Cameron or Quentin Tarentino they didn't made so many really good stories ( Planet of the apes, Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland / Terminator 2, Avatar and its sequel aren't that good some are awful like Once upon a time in Hollywood, Unglorious Bastards to name a few ) but, because they hit the spot sometimes, every of their fims has to be called masterpiece. No man ! Hayao Miyazaki directed some tremendous movies but his inspiration is dry for many years and all he has to offer now is some flashy pieces of animation popping here and there through movies without any clear storytelling. Let the guy retire ! he made his time !
ОтветитьWell not to mention the atrocities Japan committed, like how they would drop virus bombs
ОтветитьTechnology isnt bad, its how people use it thats bad, its a shame that so many use it badly and unethically like openai and stable diffusion
ОтветитьLovvvvve these movies.
Ответитьthe only sin you committed in here is using the DUBBED version... not the japanese audio ones...
ОтветитьI find it interesting that all the aircraft designs are genrally WW2 or earlier except for the SF ones. I wonder if Miyazaki did/does not find modern jets quite as roamatic of visually beautiful as those driven by propellers.
ОтветитьAh...You missed Miyazaki's amazing early series Conan boy of the future with the flying boat Falco and the awesome Airship "Gigant".
it also contains the flying pods that come back in Nausica
Hayao’s films are the inspiration of making my animation series “The Plagrum society” with aviations of war and peace at the same time shot in a 1930s style
Ответитьwhen I was young, I drew airships, which were piloted by mechas, which were piloted by humans, which had parasites in them.
all in a moving, plastic plane perpective.
I felt like god.
you are guilty of forgetting to even mention Future Boy Conan's "Giganto" warplane
