I dont understand why you have to invest over 1M+ today to get the 3k a month pay out, but if you invest 10k and build portfoloio to only 150k, your payout will be equivalent?? It makes no sense to me

I am curious how you feel about ABR now that they have been shorted and stock prices are plummeting. Is it time to buy in now that it is cheap or have they now become to much of a risk?

I just sold a property in Portland and I'm thinking of putting the cash in stocks, I know everyone is saying it's ripe enough, but Is this a good time to buy stocks? How long until a full recovery? Dividends got me into investing in the stock market. In my opinion, if you're investing and have income other than dividends, you can live on dividends without selling. That means you can pass this on to your kids to give them a head start in life. I have over $600,000 in my portfolio which include some covered call etfs for dividends and other etf`s for growth; (SCHD, DVY, VIG, SDY & JEPI)

I plugged the numbers on a few Dividends calculators and the numbers are way off for the talked about Companies.

I have been a dividend focused investor for a long time. This does not mean I don't own growth stocks, I do. A well rounded portfolio should be a mixture of both categories. One way to minimize the anxiety out of stock market investing, is to make sure you keep a large cash cushion. I invest in the market, but never put all my money in market.

I lost over $80k when everything started to tank. Not because I was in an exchange that went belly up. I was just stupid to hold and because that's what everyone said. I'm still responsible. It just taught me to be a better investor now that I understand more of what could go wrong. Stocks extended their year-to-date rally following the CPI report, with the S&P 500 last up 0.8% in afternoon trading. but I don't know if stocks will quickly rebound, continue to pull back or move sideways for a few weeks, or if conditions will rapidly deteriorate.I am under pressure to grow my reserve of $250k.

The problem we have is because Most people always taught that " you only need a good job to become rich " . These billionaires are operating on a whole other playbook that many don't even know exists.

What if invest $500k upfront and wait for 20 years?

Like Warren Buffet said, dividends are only good if the business you're investing into can't make good use of that capital. So, if you're trying to invest in businesses with actual growth, looking at dividends is a waste of time. Why are you investing into a company if they're returning capital to you because they think you can make better use if it than they can. It's not much different from bond investing. The way I see it, if you have a $1 million at some point, that'd be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between 50k - 70k in dividend income.

caveat emptor: all things said here happen ONLY if the stocks do NOT dramatically drop in price for the next 20 to 25 years

I like REITs.

One thing to consider is the tax implications. Dividends from stocks are taxed at the long term capital gain rate when held for a year and a day plus. That is ~20% no matter how much you earn. REITs, for a reason I don’t understand, are taxed the same as earned income. For high income earners this could be a factor to consider. Maybe a REIT would best be purchased in an IRA.

This is similar to a question already asked. But John, if the initial investment is doubled, tripled, etc. And the DRIP is set, does the compounding also double, triple, etc and is the time period lessened for the same goal?
