I used a polygon box driven off of the tool post.
It used wheels that touched the o/d to drive the thing, and the cutting tool moved towards the o/d and back again.
Exactly the same result.
Round bar made into hexagon.
It was a very clever design.
Ruston Gas Turbines Lincoln, is where I was trained.
Back in the 1970s, so it's nothing new.
Your version I've never seen before., but very clever.

I’ve made parts like this with a collet block but wow!!! This would be sooo much quicker and could do much more. Pretty cool man!! Never even thought of doing anything like that!! You got a new sub from me!!

The only improvement is to swap the Universal Joints for Constant Velocity Joints. this would improve accuracy and consistency. The UJ does not spin at a constant rpm, it speeds up and slows down. This is a great addition all the same. Excellent work!

Are you using any specific gear ratios in the box you made to drive the cutter? Or is there enough variation in the threading gear box to find settings that work with most any ratios in the box you made? Is the diameter of the cutter important? I would like to make one of these.

I will try to create the next video in a similar way.

наебался на 100 дурных а при наличии фрезерного станка и делительной головки делается все то же самое буквально за 5 минут, задумка конечно интересная, исполнение на высоте, но оно того не стоит, больше времени потратишь

This is a pretty old concept and there is an Indian specialist supplier who had been doing this tooling with hydraulics for over 25 years and last 15 odd years with CNC, we had two of his machines in our company, all in all a very cool concept and very productive

Now that my friend is using your head for more than a hat rack as my Paw-Paw used to say.
