I am 13 (turning 14 in 2-3 month) and I am short(5' 4") sidearm pitcher pitching mid~high 60s. and I want to know how sidearm pitchers like me can increase velocity.
ОтветитьAccording to this my son is an outlier..he is 13yo (11/3/09) 6'-1 245 and pitches in the mid seventys...the problem I've noticed is the amount of pitches his coaches want him to throw..if you count team warm-ups,bullpen warmup, warmup pitches between innings and true innings pitch its an incredible amount of throwing...and has always been a talking point I have with all the travel coaches he's had...so it's great to watch your son kick ass but for their safety watch out for him.. outliers can easily be over used
Ответитьcurrently I am 14 and i am throwing 81 mph. by the way i warm up, nobody would be able to tell
ОтветитьMy sons 11 and he can throw a fastball high fifty’s and mid fifty’s accurately he has a really good fastball cutter and sinker
ОтветитьI just started playing again at 24, and I think I throw a nice, smooth 50 mph 🤣 I think I can maybe hit 60 lol
ОтветитьI’m at 68-70 at 13 really short though I have the gym muscle going for me I feel like it’s hard to increase it when I’m not growing I grew 3 inches from last year and added 10+ mph in under a year not sure how good that is
ОтветитьI’m 15. I only AVG 55. I broke my elbow last year. But I gained 2mph in like a Month and hit 57. Still not great. So I’m probably not gonna make my HS team 😢
ОтветитьI’m 13 and throw in the low 50s, like 51-56 do you know some workouts I could try to increase velocity?
ОтветитьRip im terrible then. Im 20 and i still cant hit 70 mph probably even with teaching myself how to pitch for over 10 years
ОтветитьI am 4 10 and pitch 60 and 11 years old is that good
ОтветитьWhen I was ten I was 4”8 1/2 and when I was 11 I was 4”9 1/2 when I was ten I threw low fifty’s and clocked at 51 I am eleven and two days ago I was clocked at 60 exactly is it normal to gain that many mph in a year, I did start working out at 11 so that might be something I even believe I can probably throw harder because the radar gun was in the morning and I am VERY groggy and tired. (P.s i was injured at ten in my elbow I didn’t know that I was hurt yet it started hurting a TON 4 days later I stopped throwing for six weeks then after I got clocked at around 51 so I lost a lot off arm strength and and still threw that hard which leads me to believe that I could actually throw mid 50s at ten, but I just got hurt, but I’ll never know for sure, also how much does height play a factor?)
ОтветитьGreat video.
ОтветитьI’m 14 and 1 month throwing 83 but I have trouble with location but I can throw a 78 mph fastball accurately with no issues but I struggle with off speed currently running with a slider and change up and am in AAA playing 14u
ОтветитьI dig your approach. New sub, looking forward to watching more
ОтветитьMy step son is 9, 4'6", ~70lbs throwing 55. He's +12mph since November almost completely through improving mechanics.
ОтветитьMy son is a young 7 years old and has been playing little league for 2+ years. This past weekend he was getting some work in on his 9u team and there was (unfortunately) a radar gun that had been left on. He threw a fastball at 50 mph without a mound. He came back raving but I'm glad that my first instinct of "it doesn't matter. Did you have fun today?" was the right tactic to take. We know he's super talented but we keep telling him "the most important thing until you are 12-13 is if you had fun."
ОтветитьMy 8 year old tops at 53 as does one of his 9 year old teammates (yea we have radar). There’s a 9 year old in our area that tops at 60! 44-49 is very common in 9u travel here in NC
ОтветитьI think I topped out at 76 mph when I was 13 but I was diagnosed with leukemia and was left very weak but now I’m 16 and I can only throw 81 mph.
Ответитьmy son is 16, sophomore in hs. has never cracked 80 mph. he got clocked at 79 once earlier this year while training for this season. he plays class 6 high school in MO. he just pitched 3 scoreless innings in a JV game by keeping the ball low in the zone, changing speeds, keeping his slider outside and just keeping the hitters off balance.
ОтветитьHi Coach, Thank you for these informative videos on pitching velocity. So my son is 9 and he is 4:3 about 63 pounds. I pitched at the D II level, and I have given him a base to work with. I finally hired a pitching coach 9U and went up to shuffle shuffle and throw as hard as he could and hit 51 twice. From the stretch on flat ground 46 feet, he averaged around 47-48, which I thought was pretty good. Being that he is still kinda slight, how much COULD he gain in MPH by say a year from now? It's kind of a loaded question, but I'm just curious to say he doesn't grow much. What could you expect potentially?
ОтветитьMy son can throw 60 to 65 at 11 and he weighs 85 pounds and also can throw a curve ball I am so proud of him he just got on his second select team
ОтветитьMy 6 year old about late 30s but he has a horrible habit of short arming the ball. When he pulls back correctly he hits about 40-42. Someone said that was hard i thought they were lying lol
ОтветитьI am 5 ,10 145 I throw 80 at 14 but I want to throw harder
ОтветитьI’m 14 and throw 80 s and one of the top pitchers in Washington and Oregon
ОтветитьI was dying because my friend is 14, 5 4 and 90lbs and only throws 50💀
ОтветитьHi Coach, I 15 5 10" 142lb i'm pitching 76-78 T80 is this fast enough I feel like I should be throwing 90mph
I play in CAA div 2 in Arizona High school baseball.
I’m 11 I throw 65 66
ОтветитьI guess that I'm a 10-year-old righty and a 12-year-old lefty.
ОтветитьComplete analysis thanks Dan. When I was 14 I pitched in little league at Odessa Texas got to the playoffs but didn't assist. I regret that all my life becuase I love pitching. Thanks Dan
ОтветитьWe played a 12u team a few weeks ago and I swear their pitcher was 6ft and had a mustache. I should probably ask for his birth certificate if we play them again😂
ОтветитьThere was this one kid when I was playing 12 u he threw 80. I got a hit off him up the middle by blindly swingign somehow.
ОтветитьLove your channel Coach. Blessings
Ответитьcan any fit office worker of average height become a 90mph thrower after 3-5years of practice or is the 90mph pitch a thing that needs above average genes and a whole childhood dedicated to it?
ОтветитьSome people forget that most outliers will throw out their arm before they can use it unless they practice safely
ОтветитьMy daughter is 8 and throwing mid 40’s .. but she stopped playing baseball and moved to softball now :(
ОтветитьThanks for the insight.
ОтветитьI love this
ОтветитьQuestion Coach: My kid just turned 12 (5'0", 114). From the stretch, his FB is 64-67 and his max is 69 which he's recently hit a few times in one day (pocket radar verified). His arm hardly ever bothers him. I play NABA ball in Hawaii as a fit 41 year old. When I work with him, I hit 74 Max from the stretch. My arm is crushed after a workout with him. How can I be sure he's not hurting his arm? He can barely do a pull up, I do 20. I'm confused about how the 5 MPH difference is crushing me, and he's a child with no arm pain who can't lift his chin over a bar more than once, but throws 69 MPH.
ОтветитьThanks very much. Two questions:
1. Are these “sits at” or “touches” speeds?
2. Should we think of this as on the nth birthday or about six months after?
For some reason kids and to some extent their parents are focused on velocity and throwing several different types of pitches. My son is 13 and has played since age 6. He has enjoyed pitching ever since he started playing. Since day one, I have told him never over-exert your arm (throw at 80% most of the time) and don't throw anything but 2 and 4 seamers. I have seen lots of kids pitching over the last 7 years and what stands out is how hard some of them try to throw and how they try and throw curveballs/sliders/changeups. Most of them end up walking and hitting too many players. My son goes in and pitches 2 and 4 seamers at about 80% and locates the pitches accurately and ends up with much better results than the kids throwing 100% and throwing curves/sliders/changeups. Some of the best pitchers in MLB don't have the highest velocity but they have extremely good control of their pitches.
ОтветитьI commented on the ‘King of Juco’ channel about how I could only throw in the mid-80s in high school and I attribute it to being 5’10”. I got a lot of toxic comments about me making excuses. Thanks for clarifying a players’ development and being rational in your analysis.
ОтветитьMy 14yo is 5’11” 160lbs and is sitting around 75-77. Tops off at 80 once in a while. And my 18yo is 6’1” 177lbs and sits around 83-85. Tops off at 87-88 every now and then.
ОтветитьI'm enjoying all your videos. I wish the internet was around back when I played in the '70s. I have not noticed commentary that a 'fastball' is not really throwing as hard as possible. It is far better to sacrifice speed to get good location, about 90% full throttle seems about right. Or that missing the plate by a couple inches on a fastball is okay, because that practice pitch gets the next fastball more precise. And a high fastball is advantageous when facing a hitter who can discern pitch plateaus (fastball vs curve).
ОтветитьThank you for providing some perspective (social media does warp things). May I ask your perspective on SS/Pitchers at age 12 and beyond? If a kid is an above average SS and an average pitcher, it seems that the team not only benefits from keeping him at SS, but the kid is only putting his arm at risk pitching (he doesn't take pitching lessons, etc). Basically, I'm wondering at what age a position player who can throw alright should stop pitching, especially if he's unlikely (interest wise and genetically) to be a pitcher as he gets older. Thanks!
ОтветитьMy son is 14 about to be 15. 5' 8" 150 lbs and recently hit 81 MPH sitting around 78 on FB. i hope he keeps up the progress.
ОтветитьGreat message Coach.
