When Robert is in the library talking to Matthew about the entail in Season 1 and he he says he knows how to handle the dowager countess and she is standing in the doorway and says “Really?? Well if you do, you must have learned to very recently.”

granny is my favorite role in Downton Abbey... the way she talks, the way she act... so funny

Let’s give the writers. The DELIVERY by Ms Smith makes the lines especially funny.

I love her sarcastic put downs. No one else could carry off the role with such aplomb

I loved the scene where she picks apart Lord Hepworth, and gets him to admit he’s after Rosamund for her money.

Another great moment, especially with Laura there, is where Violet didn’t even need to speak. She says “You know me; never complain, never explain.” Edith goes something like “You don’t have any problem complaining.” The death stare she gives Edith could peel paint.

I think “what is a weekend?” Is the best.

My favoriten moment is when she plays cards with Isobel after she was sick and Isobel says that the game could continue for hours and grannyis just like "Oh, goody goody"

I thought this show would be one of those typical old wordy British period dramas that would bore the living daylight out of me with it's tiresome dialogue. I couldn't be more wrong. It's actually such an engaging, AMAZING show and it deserves all the hype around it. Dame Maggie Smith's "Violet" is actually my favourite character.
