I forgot how ridiculous the fighting was in this show. Just horrible and unrealistic.

I hate this scene. Of course you'd only attack one side and defeat in detail, that's how you fight every battle. What possible reason would the vikings have to attack both sides? The writers surely though they were being clever and it's a beautiful scene... But stupidly written. Could have at least had the Saxons have a throwaway like that "Well we need to be on both sides so they don't attack a civilians on either side."

I love analyzing the fictional war between mercia and Ragnar! However there are so many questions of both sides choices when it comes to defense positions and attack strategy 🤔. For example it's a bad idea to split your army the way the mercian forces did, but it's also equally a bad decision on Ragnars side to advance directly on the coast of the river attacking the enemy head on like D-day or something. So both are at fault but never the less it's a great fight!!!

tv series and movies really went to shit this past two decades.

to give an idea, even LOTR was just a fire ball of plot armor and convenience for the main character, but in the end they made it worked pretty well trough music, actors perforance, good, epic vibes, ecc... This is just sad to look at.

i have seen movies from the 50s-60s, and that was art.
I think it all went to shit in the 70s, with the birth and success of splatter horror, that crippled the standars of cinema, be it writing and actor performance.

for example: a turd came out, it was Friday 13th.
It was awful, worst actors and writing i had ever seen in a movie, yet it had success, and they ended up making dozens of them.
The same goes for his buddy Freddy Cruger in nightmare.

Now, why should you risk a large amount of money, to make a good movie, while you can make a cheap one and be 100% sure to get the money back?

Ragnar didn't outplay anybody lol But it wasn't as if he needed to. What need is there to outplay an enemy idiotic enough to split their army in half on opposite sides of a river cut off from each other? They outplayed themselves.

This is actually an interpretation of the historical battle of Ragnar against the Frank's bf Paris. They split there army n Ragnar destroyed the smaller force. Took the survivors to a island in the middle of the the Seine. And hung n tortured them through the night. Wile the army listen. In the morning when the fog cleared they saw over 100 of there comrade's hanging n the army deserted. That's the scene with the heads hanging from the boat's
