When I was a kid, my father and I drove over to a department store (pre-WalMart) to waste some time. In the parking lot was a crappy little carnival. After shopping, my dad decided to try his luck on a spinning wheel. It was me, dad, and the guy in the booth. I was probably about 10 and just along for the ride, but after a few minutes of spinning and losing, I began to suspect something was wrong. I’m not sure if my dad was trying his luck or teaching me a lesson. I think he lost about $90.00 on purpose and made a production like he was taken. I felt bad for him, but it cast an impression. Now about 50 years later, I find myself in a casino on occasion enjoying watching other people. I have a small RV and roam around the States. Given that I never cook in my van, I’m always looking for free parking and a restaurant. A casino is sometimes just right, especially on holidays. My only gripe is that the free parking lot is seriously lit up at night making it a hard to filter all the excess light. Other than that, it’s a safe place to be, offers free entertainment , and generally decent, but not great, food. Unfortunately, the free entertainment sometimes includes watching a guy blow his rent money.
