Great video! in more recent windows updates, the CSenable section in the registry editor is no longer available. What are your thoughts on this and how to solve it? Best regards from Chile!

The most important tip: Get a router that can block M$ updates, telemetry, etc. It's called NGFW.

Hey There

I might be switching from apple to pc, havent used windows in about a decade. I hear there can be latency issues and random audio drop outs and crashes. But are these issues typically with older pcs that arent powerful enough? Or are these common issues with older windows OS?
If I get windows ten and an i9, plenty of RAM and a fast SSD with the right motherboard, you know, just a current build, what should I expect? I just never used windows for music before, with Mac I just turn on logic and I dont mess with settings really. Its just apple keeps trying to make things more isolated to work better for apple itself but seems to not care about any compatibility with any usb 2.0 devices, and they are changing their processors to ARM processors in there computers soon. I feel this will cause more issues, I see so many complaints about current os updates, especially on their new computers.
So im just wondering, what are common issues with windows? What causes latency aside from what you covered here? If I have an audio interface, is ASIO necessary for me? Do plugins and software like Pro tools usually known to get buggy with windows updates? Do viruses truly cause permanent damage or is information usually retrievable if my files arent backed up. Thing is with apple and new devices, their T2 chip will encrypt and basically erase your whole drive if there is a random issue. I do backup files but I dont like this, I dont like not being able to swap out something if there is an issue either. However, I hear vague comments that windows isnt as stable but im not sure why people say this, im trying to understand what the issue is, iv heard people having to reinstall OS but for what reason? Do things tend to randomly go haywire sometimes? Also iv heard people complain about drivers, but again I dont understand, dont you just download drivers from a companies site, are basic drivers not included in windows, or if they are included, are there supposedly better ones?
Sorry for all the questions but I cant find any real specific answers anywhere just vague complaints! What should I expect when operating windows in terms of common roadblocks for music aside from this video?

Thanks for any help

Hi, is this video still up to date in 2020? Just bought an Acer predator helios 300 for recording purposes and wonder if the creator updates are included in win10 2020. I got to that power plan but only had Acer and Balanced options, did the csenable thing but no high performance

Thanks for the video. I had spent a year building my studio and getting wiring etc. where it needed to be and then in January of 2019 my audio quality when recording started developing minor but strange problems. In forums etc. the suggestions were always about the cables, mics, preamps etc. Problem was these had performed very well until January. After researching and looking at the dates of recordings and when the problems started it got down to being related to Windows updates. I was used to shutting down background process, network, antivirus etc when I did analog video and so since things were going so well didn't think about having to get back to that. Your video summarized exactly what I was seeing and I am working on implementing changes now. The info here was very useful. Thanks.

The best tweak for this "creators update" is to get rid of it ASAP and make sure it or the next ones are never installed. The darn thing made my brand new high end computer unstable just because I have a Firewire sound card. Got blue screens all day long after it was installed and it just got worse with the next ones.

Changing the binary value to 0 didn't add the high performance plan for me, but when I clicked "add a power plan", it had the option for "high performance plan", so I added it.

Hello Sir. Can I ask you something? I have seen in one of your videos that you are using a touch screen monitor, and that is exactly what I wanted to do. Obviously you know a thing or two about this stuff . . 😁 so my question is. What screen monitor are you using and with which DAW? Any problem with a particular VST? I hope you will find the timeto answer me. Thank You.

One question I have an Asus laptop with Nvidia graphics in my tray the asus and Nvidia icons are showing. Should I disable the Nvidia graphics and just use the asus?

I wish Microsoft designed windows software specifically for use with DAW systems, where all these tweaks are built in. Call it "Windows MS" ... 'MS' for 'Media Studios', which only allows for use with DAW software, video & photo editing and art, while striping it the ability to work office applications and or download anything unrelated to music and video production... Microsoft? Is this possible?

Thanks for your tips. I'm new to windows audio coming from OSX and I've been running some audio tests with my internal realtek sound card and trying the WASAPI driver and ASIO driver. I'm getting CPU instability performing some tests with spiking and audio breakup though. Like with U-he DIVA vst I can get 6 instances of 2 note chords and it will play fine around the 45% CPU usage mark (Divine quality setting) - Then if I add one more instance I get serious audio glitching at CPU spikes to 100%. The same thing happens with a 3 note chord test but it starts glitching on 6 instances instead. With sylenth1 i can get 200 instances though. With repro-5 I get about 8 instances on an 8 voice preset with 95% cpu usage without much audio breakup and 18 instances on a 2 voice preset. This is at 480 samples. with the WASAPI driver. I'm still waiting to buy a new audio interface - will this massively reduce cpu spikes and provide much better, more stable performance or should I still be able to get it with the internal card?

Sir, I tried to enable the high performance option in the power settings by editing the CsEnebled setting in regedit. I changed this to 0 but still the high performance option isn't visible. I'm running the latest windows 10 update, 1803. Any clue why the "high performance"option won't show up? Thanks in advanced!!

tip for those on newer windows update. if you do the regedit , restart, and still don't see the high performance setting, go to create power plan. then itll appear there. select it as the base, then just name your power plan the same. then save. now when you see and select high performance, in its advanced settings you will see all the options to tweak just like in this vid. p.s. creating plan without doing regedit, on latest windows build, will not make high performance appear. so the regedit is needed and works on my 2017 pro with i5 and 8gb of ram.

Thanks for this. The CsEnabled key doesnt appear to give the same results on the surface book 2. Still only have balanced plan available after reboot. The options are available under advanced though. The default plan seems to be a mess. eg SSD default turn off after a minute on AC power. PCI interface power saving on battery and AC. Stutters a lot in Audacity and Reason.

I've been in the industry for 21 years. Disabling anything that slows your CPU down when it's just doing light use such as browsing is just plain wrong. Anything that requires more power will shoot up to full speed. No point running your CPU 100% all the time, waste of energy and won't last as long.

Thanks for these videos, they are great!  I have a  few quick questions for the group:  I'm buying a new laptop for music production.  Thinking about the Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 4GB AMD Graphics - 1080p - comes with a 250G SSD and a 2 terabyte 5600RPM hard drive all for around $1,000.  But, it comes with Win 10 Home 64bit.  1st question... is the Home version of Win 10 going to be a problem and 2nd question, would the Surface Pro be a better way to go?  Open to all opinions... thanks in advance!

Hi, Thanks for this great video. I still have some troubles after doing all these tweaks: some times, +/- every 2 hours of playing, I have some small crackles. I have seen on the task manager that this corresponds with subit high peaks of CPU and disk use. But I don't know why. I don't do anything special when this happens. Do you have any idea on what to do to avoid that?

Thank you for this helpful video. I feel a little guilty that you make it so easy to implement these optimizations and are not asking for money. (uh, please don't) I would like to know if you have a video (or would consider making one) on "over clocking" a desktop PC? I would pay for that one! Cubase 9.5 has a "use Steinberg Power Scheme". Is "Windows 10 best performance " better to use than Steinberg's power scheme? And why? Thanks again and know I'm a subscriber now.

Quite a bit of crap advice in here.
Such as: Startup programs that pop up "right in the middle of something vital ..."
NO. They start when you start up Windows. That's why they're referred to as "startup".
