Even if you’re doing well financially— part time? Heck yea! Even as just a min wage shoe fitter, I learned a lot abt customer service, answering phones, communicating with your boss about scheduling, handling busy rushes—all stuff that helped me tremendously my first week in a doctor’s office. And investing some of the money I got gave me practice with the stock market.
I was lucky to get a job that was only 10 hrs a week tho. If it was 20+ hrs I think my grades would drop😅. So ultimately, id say its a great move, unless you find yourself sacrificing sleep or grades—thats when its time to slow down if u have the option

I would say no to this. Unfortunately for a lot of people when they work while in school, they tend to just leave school because they are already making money and don’t see the benefit of it but part time yes.

I'm currently pursuing my associate's in science degree so I can transfer to a four-year university and eventually earn my degree in mechanical engineering. During my first semester of college, I was tired of having to spend money on absolutely no income. Sure, I still live with my parents but I wanted some of my own money so I could save it. I started working at my local Toyota dealership as a lube technician. The work is very basic, it mostly consists of tire rotations, general inspections, oil changes, and tire repairs, but it's definitely tough. Somedays are extremely busy and the work is taxing on your body. But my boss and coworkers are genuinely the people I want to be around. I can't explain how much my boss has helped me. There was one point when I bought a project car and my boss helped me rebuild the transmission. This sparked my interest in engineering even more. I still work there, and I'm happy to say that I have a good amount of money to take with me.

Worked 20-30ish hrs a week...balancing multiple part-time jobs, conducted research, was Vice president of a club, mentor etc. and was an Honor Univesity Scholar/ Summa Cum Laude with 3.94 GPA in a rigorous major...utterly difficult but I was poor with supportive family and friends!

I am 21 and I have worked a full time job averaging about 50+ hours a week and being a full time student but all the courses were online. Im nearing the end of my degree and a lot of my classes are face to face now and meet multiple times a week. My work schedule didn’t align with my school schedule. I am fortunate to not have to work as I live a home, but I want to work to save for future endeavors in my life and I just feel if I find the right flexible job I can continue like I have been.

I am still in school, but I work roughly 20+ hours a week and full time any time I am not in school. I am also on the road at least 2 hours a day M-F. Working a job in today's day in age just covers necessities to live and some extra outside costs for school such as projects, books, some for hobby as well. Its has been very difficult pursuing engineering and always playing catch up. Financial aid does not cover all the costs and I am continuing to further my debt to make this happen. It is not fun having to work and being an average student but it has to be done.

Work for a large power utility offers 5k a year in tuition assistance. My hours are set to allow me to attend school after work. Ie... cant work overtime unless its a day i dont have school. I work in the service dept so i am alone most of the day, it would be difficult qorking on a line crew or construction crew. Its all about the company and supervisors.

If you are in you are late teens and early 20s then yes. If you worked throughout your 20s and mud to late 20s decide to switch to full time college then no. Having a part time job is good but it's better for it to be internships or workprograms if possible. Just hustle, get your education and network.

I would say it is possible provided you’re determined, and of course you need the money . I work 48 hours a week , take 13 credits a semester , commute 3 hours for work and maintain a 4.0 GPA. I’m currently a student senator and a nursing student. Develop strong work ethics , and see you surprise yourself .

I remember working 40 hours per week while taking math and programming classes for my CS degree. I got so burnt out to the point that I had to withdraw my classes due to bad grades and stress. I ended up leaving my job to focus on school for the next semester. I have a good cushion for this since I’ve been working from the age of 16 so in this case, I am totally focused on school now.

In my country part time jobs are irrelevant because nearly 90% of our college requirement is a full time internship. The ones working part-time are also in irrelevant industries to their degree such as as a cashier, waiter, drive-thru etc. Personally, as someone working in HR, I don't look at their part-time experience as a cashier waiter etc as something to be an advantage about. I rather look into what they did in their internship and whether they would have the specific skills the department in my company would need. If I think they possess the right skills based on their intern experience, I would call them up for an interview and move on with that based on their attitude and personality. However, if I'm hiring for someone in a customer service role in my company, I would consider looking to their part-time experience as well, ones that would involve a lot of hands on customer service interaction.

I work part time in a very affluent area which sells luxury goods, clothes, and has nice restaurants etc.

This allows me to have conversations with some high profile executives or entrepreneurs which helps a lot.

I don’t make much, but I have been able to have some people in big companies want to hire me and casually interview me. During our interaction as sometimes me being a student comes up.

I have a friend who while in university worked a regular job and did an internship during college which I'm assuming was unpaid but he was able to make an income while earning his degree and with his internship after he graduated he got offered a position with his degree for that same company and was able to get a much better job with that company.

I go to college full time and full time in a factory job. So I’m basically not home from 7am to 11pm from Monday to Friday. Im off the weekends though. I also live alone so I can’t do maintenance around the house and garden during the week, I try to do it during the weekend. It’s hard but worth it afterwards.

I think if you can get an internship it is most likely a good idea. My school's department of computer science allows me to replace computing electives with up to 6 hours of credits from interning. While I wonder if I'm missing out on education from some of those electives, I believe the real-world experience afforded by interning is highly valuable and definitely should be at least considered.
