Baldur's Gate 3: Frontline/Face/Striker/Healer Paladin - Quick Start Class Guide

still waiting till sept 6th to play and wanna go pally, but worried, is it easy to break a oath?

Hey I wonder if you can help I like this build but want to focus more on the Frontline/Striker as Healing is covered by Shadowheart for me, what should I change?

Im wanting to do a full DPS paladin of vengeance playthrough, but im scared its going to be the only front-line and without going full tank, im going to get rammed D:

Frightened Condition is actually very good in BG3, so don't overlook Wrathful Smite. I got a lot of mileage out of that spell in Early Access.

I really prefer Sacred Weapon from Devotion paladin over Vow of Enmity from Vengeance. Lots of things get you advantage, but a stacking +3 or +4 on attack rolls for the fight is amazing. If you use Haste or Speed Potions (seem rather common in BG3), the full action for sacred weapon isn't that bad anymore. Vengeance has great bonus spells, but having Restoration, Protection G/E and Sanctuary is better for rare circumstances

Really nice rundown brother. I appreciate all the work. I was planning on a Pally of some sort, maybe multi with Lock or Sorc, but maybe just straight Pally. I definitely have a bit of paralysis by analysis leading up up to launch. This vid both helps and hurts my decision making, but in a good way if you know what I mean =). Thx for all the work. Can you speak a little bit about Eldritch Blast with Pally? I'm a little confused on when you'd ever want to use it. If the goal is to be a front line tank/dps, it seems like Eldritch Blast is mainly only going to be used when you just can't close distance and need a ranged option? I like the idea of multiclassing Warlock mainly because I like Warlock as a class, but it seems like you'd mainly be taking it for the spell slots because EB is going to be really situational. And if that's the case, wouldn't bard or sorc give you more spell slots to mess with?

Now I am super tempted to try out a Paladin, but with the story driven origin companions, there are more reasons to use specific classes to build a useful party. Which companions do you plan to use with your paladin build? I only played the first 30 minutes of the EA a few times and I like Shadowheart and would like to have her in my party… but I think she would not go well with the paladin, or would she?

Hmm my plan was to take 2 devotion paladin 10 lore bard but lvl 3 in devotion paladin seems to come with some realy good team damage mitigation...

Currently in EA Great Weapon Fighting rerolls the 1s and 2s on Divine Smites as well. This bumps it up really high, but of course it might not work that way on release.

1 thing to think about with Paladin is that Devine Smite is a reaction, so you can never use it and you can use it on ever attack you make in a round, as long as you hit with each attack. This also means it works on bonus attacks and attacks of opportunity

My fav character I ever played was a 3/3.5 Half Red Dragon Fighter Sorc Spell Sword with Arcane Strike. She was a bit of a melee version of a Glass Cannon because of the missing HD, buuuuuut, withbArcane Atrike she was laying down a heavy wallop round after round. I will try and re-make her in BG3 as a Dark Urge Red Dragonborn Sorcidon of Vengeance.

If the plan to use heavy armor for the paladin and not sneak around, the 2 points used in dex are wasted, since heavy armor doesn’t gain benefit from Dex bonus.
Better drop them in constitution and the points from int can be moved also to cons as well, distribute the 3 loose ability points from class one into str one into cons and one into charisma to get 16s in all of them which will be pretty good for a start!

Why wouldn’t you dump INT? Why keep it at 10?
Additionally, I’d assume WIS is more important in BG3 because how important perception is in the campaign.

Do you think a druid could be a tank. I played open access and it seemed to work but i dunno if it will still work at higher levels

Does pact of the blade give charisma bonus on attacks in addition to strength bonus? That's my understanding, but I'm not sure.
