Everyone saying tesla. The better sales model never buys msrp. Everyone wants below msrp. No one wants sticker price. Im a salesman brand new, 0 add ons. Just sticker and ur TTL. Maybe 1 out of 100 will buy msrp.

Current Mercedes and former Nissan sales person. The reason you guys run into the scummy sales people it’s because they have scummy owners/ management. They pay you Pennie’s of the profit so you basically have to harass customers to buy. Luckily I’ve worked at 2 dealerships where we get paid more than a fair amount . So you could actually treat people like people and make a great living .

First, the dealerships were burned after the year 2000. How? The car manufacturer told them that their profit margin on a new car was being cut. This caused major financial burdens for the dealer. So, he makes up the difference on the customer. Oh, and if you get rid of the dealer, where do you take your vehicle if it's recalled????

I just spent all weekend on new car lots. HOW IS THIS STILL A THING!?! 20 years ago, I had a gun pulled on me while buying weed from a shady guy, and that was still better than trying to deal with these car salesmen a$$holes.

Sad reality check here. Was at the dealership this week. Went to trade in for a used vehicle, was told that IF I had an 800 credit score I might qualify for 9% interest.... BUT IF I wanted a New version of the same car I could have a 2.3% interest rate and my payment would actually end up being LESS!!!!

Buddy, you should stop spreading misinformation to people who are not aware of car industry.
There are laws and regulations for car pricing, it's called "ALL IN PRICING "

My current leased Hyundai was sold on October 2021. Smack in the middle of COVID. I needed a car because my 2019 Hyundai lease was up. I couldn't afford to buy out the lease. I wanted the same model (Kona Limited) as my 2019, and I had a choice of ONE VEHICLE! It was the same charcoal gray color with light gray leather interior, which was good luck for me, but I had NO OTHER CHOICES. Worse, I had one hour to run to the dealership and put down a deposit to hold the vehicle. The salesman literally ran out the door with a "SOLD" sign for the windshield, as about 4 or 5 other folks were looking at the only 2022 Kona Limited on the lot. Now, two years later, I see how dealers are charging ABOVE MSRP. I have another year left on my lease. I would lease another Kona Limited next year, but also looking at EV and Hybrids (not from Hyundai). Let's see what happens in a year (well, less, as I have to decide next July) as people are wising up to these shady dealership practices! I also have an option that I didn't have before -- a lease buy-out. I can buy my car, walk away from the dealerships, and wait until the time is better to lease a 2025 or newer EV or Hybrid.

2 ways to deal with the keys scam.

Do you have a concealed carry permit? There are guns in the car and it’s a felony for you to be in the car without a permit.
I’ll do the driving part of the valuation process and your guy will be the passenger.

Last time i was shopping for a car i was set on a volx wagon. The worst car shopping experience ive ever had. I went to multiple dealers and they all sucked. They would advertise a price online, but not have that car in stock when i showed up, even when i would call ahead and see if they had it.

I decided to try a Hyundai dealer and found them to be much more relax and ended up getting a car from them

Family owned one of the largest Olds dealerships in the county. The dealers are being screwed due to the manufacturers who are the ones to set what the MSRP is on the cars, and thus, what markup is built into that price for the dealership. I think everyone remembers the day when there was a 20% profit margin the in the MSRP. I think for domestic models that was late 60s early 70s. Today some cars only have a 4% profit margin for the dealers, or maybe less. The person who is not hurting on this is the manufacturers. This is why you have the mega dealer ship corporations. As a single dealer you don't have the available means to generate a basic profit, so you have to always make an effort to get whatever is available. IMO its the manufacturers who are making a mess of how you buy a car, and if they ever get to setting up their own dealerships it will become much much worse. Did you know they use to own their own dealerships? It was a disaster.

"You might end up paying more for the insurance than actually fixing windscreen" Its not just might. You WILL always pay more for the insurance. Thats the whole business of insurances you have to charge more than you end up paying for the fixes, otherwise you'd be just loosing money.

I would not advocate buying used, instead I'd rather advocate for buying new and then use it for as long as possible. My car is now 20 years old.
No matter how careful you are, used car is going to be a gamble. And let's be honest, most people are not nearly careful enough. Instead, take good care of your hopefully long term workhorse, know all of its "medical history" and hope that you will only ever need two or three cars in your life(one car is pretty rare and at some point, the worse fuel economy might actually mean it will be better to get a new one long term)

That said, it is better to buy for cash than "finance". So if you can't buy a new car for cash, getting a used car for cash would be better than new via finance. And if worst come to worst, buy a beater via finance--because anything newer depreciate way too fast and can make you upside down.

Car centric infrastructure caused all of this if shopping centers : work places : grocery stores weren't so spaced out. Now a car is a requirement for most people.
If you even utter public transportation or biking infrastructure. Auto enthusiast feel attacked or something. If I could afford to move to another country it would be somewhere in the Amsterdam. With better person in mind transportation networks.

I used to sell cars. Car salesmen are paid commission only which is a percentage of the profit of the car. So the more you discount a car then less you make. And if the sale isn’t profitable then you are paid what’s called a “mini” (minimum commission) which at a lot of dealerships is $100-200 pre tax. Salesmen aren’t incentivized to be on the customers side

Lest we forget during post Covid auto sales manufacturers (not all but a lot) were pumping out cars as fast as possible in some cases with less than two thirds of their work force present in a factory leading to recalls and shoddy build quality. If you’ve made it to today without buying a car and need to please note YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY A DEALER MARKUP. The post Covid auto shortage is OVER

I sell cars and I understand the stigma, but there are still salespeople who care about giving the guest a good experience and will work with you to make sure you get a good deal. Keep in mind, if you don't like a salesperson or dealership, you can always walk away. They should be earning your business.

A car dealership is just a den of thieves, the direct from the manufacturer sales model should be the standard everywhere... The whole Monopoly excuse is BS there are many car manufacturers in competition with each other so there goes that and I see no reason that small businesses that don't have a hand in the manufacturing of a vehicle should have a stake in profits in regards to the sale of cars.

Not sure what it’s like at car dealerships nowadays ( haven’t stepped foot on one in 20 years) but I usually had fun. I’ve mainly never had the need to own a vehicle for ego purposes but when I had an itch to drive something nice I’d go to only test drive. I say once every couple of months I’d spend a weekend test driving cars I knew I couldn’t afford. I’d dress up and request the sales person let me take it alone. Stay within your means but have fun on those greedy buggers. Just go knowing that’s your plan.
