The Rust ecosystem is a 5/5 - the community is a "unkempt femboy furry screaming at you on Reddit for using unsafe"/5. So I guess 5/10 for that was very much justified.

Java is more secure because a lot of security stuff is handled by the very mature framework, often used in banking, also mature libraries which proved themselves over years.

btw that thing you liked in Go where you can add custom methods to objects is what we call "prototype pollution" in JS and did that a lot in early jQuery times...

Yeah, great times lol

Java ecosystem is great... it's in my experience a lot better than javascript and python. Also, you will find the best libraries and tools for almost any given task... as it has been used for enterprise and big applications, quality is great and things like spring boot autoconfigurations make integrations with other tools easy. Also, it makes delivering good products with it very fast... I've made a lot of python and typescript development and except for small scripts, Java is superior

he's so real for the "python ecosystem is the worst" take. its actually insane how terribly all the bits fit together. as a junior with only PHP experience i remember saying something like the following to my boss - "i wish python had good packages/tools that are easy to use and sensible like PHP has." and its crazy to me that this thought is still true IMO. PHP tools and ecosystem are a far cry from "the best" or "sensible" even but most of them do indeed "just work" and I would say it is strongly in the middle of the pack when it comes to the ecosystem. Python is an abysmal mess and the the internal code of almost every python tool genuinely looks like it was written by a 3 year old.

Practically java or c# is better, they started as server language just like go or rust, and exits for longer time so the vibrant community and packages. For enterprise only few techs work, there will be unstable team, limited resources and skills so use the better tool which is alrounder. C# or java is safest of all listed options.... Software is not just using latest technology, it is to deliver the features required then evolve.

I don't understand the Ruby hate from Prime to be honest. It's a wonderful, mature language that has an amazing ecosystem and is supported by huge companies that have been very successful scaling with it. It's not the new-hotness, and it doesn't attract young devs chasing Twitter clout - but I think that's a feature and not a bug.

It's not that weirrd for a java program to outperform C, specially if it is a bad written C. Java memory management and JIT compiler that optimizes the code on the run makes that you need a very skilled C programmer to make better performant software written by the average Java Programmer, JVM and other components make most of the heavy performance optimization 4 J automatically on the run.

I think by ecosystem and community he as just referring to the size of them or the number of packages available. I think how you rank them determines on your definition. It would probably be different if the definition was who had the best community/ecosystem but then that is also really subjective.

For Pythonists:

I'm studying some code but I'm at the very beginning, so this question might be a little silly.

I always see here and there people saying that loops in Python are really bad.

So from a Pythonist's perspective, are they really that bad? Are there people contributing to the project who are trying or have tried to do something about it?

Thanks!

As a university student, I really liked Java for simple apps. But then I had to build a REST API using Spring. Even with all the help of JPA, Lombok, MapStruct and the likes, it was a terrible experience. It felt so unnecessarily clunky and verbose and the dependency hell was real. I can't believe I actually had a better time creating a REST API using vanilla PHP, doing all the REST endpoint parsing by hand.

Hey Prime, do you know there is a programming language called "Coldfusion" by Adobe. You don't have a dedicated editor for it, you don't have fully functional LSP for it, and you need to pay for license for use it on production 🤣 They developed a VSCode extension in 07-2022. It is a 28 years old language and i am using it for 5 years... I am working with one of the biggest ERP company founded in Turkey, which uses Coldfusion for their whole application for 20 years. It is a fullstack framework, and you can write your queries inside your frontend page. You must check it and make a video about it it is hilarious. You can write everything inside HTML Tags.

And index starts from 1.

Theres just no excuse for not just using GO. PHP, Python? You are using dynamic scripting languages for building applications and that is basically unforgivable. C#, Java? You're likely to be requiring just an ungodly, masochistic degree of framework specific domain knowledge and mechanisms when really you could just implement clean code and straightforward arch.
