Being you fell in love with old bluey for so long you should really try the new cobra dark speed ls 3 wood. I bought one a few months back and it’s the absolute best 3 wood I have ever played. It’s longer straighter and easier to hit than any 3 wood I have had in the bag…. 🙂👍🏼

Since I was only using my own F7 Ol' Bluey for tee shots on short doglegs, I replaced it with a Ping G430 FIVE Wood which is easier to strike from the turf.

Put it in the bag Rick! Flatten the lie angle one degree and that should help with that left shot.

How many times has “Old Bluey” temporarily had a replacement? And it’s always gone back into the bag.

Ping clubs are great. And it’s Ping 3 wood that did eventually manage to replace my old Yonex steel headed 3 wood some years back. Btw, I do miss that old Yonex club. Thing is we get used to clubs we use & what they do.

Might be worth working with the Ping G430 for a while to get used to it. Am sure it’ll settle down.

It’s funny that you don’t want more distance. You’re leaving a big gap between three wood and driver. Having a second option off the tee would be nice.

My Rogue Sub Zero was my longest lasting club but that's being replaced this week so that means my Cobra F8 3 wood will now be my longest standing club.

That was my rogue st max driver. I rarely hit close to 220 but when I put it up against the qi10 it outperformed the qi10

Why is a PGA professional blaming the club for it going left? Surely, the problems you have with a fairway wood have little to do with the club?

Best club design ive made was taking the 3 wood out and putting in a 5 wood not only doses the 5 wood reach long par 5s its so much better off the tee . Shorter x stiff shaft makes it feel like a hybrid and less like a wood.

Try the Maltby KE4 Tour TC fairway wood. I suck and I can't help but hit it straight!

I have the same relationship with my 3W. It’s a Callaway X2 Hot from maybe 10 years ago! It’s been old faithful but yes the occasional Toper, and mega left hook will leave me disappointed. But when I hit it well it’s magical. It’s not fitted to me whatsoever. I’ve considered replacing it with a 5W or even a 7W. With some of the tech I can prob get same performance out of a 5W and more consistent.

I love how even the Great Rich Shiels blames the left shot on the club and not himself. One of us. :)

To be honest, the left pull is likely more a technique thing than a gear issue. Like obviously the extra length and loft might be good for you to increase forgiveness. I have a Ping G430 Max myself and personally thats not something mine has had a tendency to do.

Did you ever test the paradym triple diamond 3 wood? I don’t carry as far as you do. My no wind smashes roll out to your carry on the driver. I got the triple diamond Paradym triple diamond 3 wood and it smashes to that 240 carry.

Sad days Rick😢 "Old Bluey". I loved seeing it in your bag and had pushed me to get two woods and one hybrid by Cobra, right! The rails on the sole, SOLD me!

Other than DOD, no club in our bag requires a more precise tempo than the (fairway) 3 wood.

Your uncommon height only increases this often unacknowledged requirement.

I have noticed that when your tempo varies , like Mine on occasion, you instinctively attempt to make up for the loose feel with your athletic ability
(Ie. Your hands).

Fortunately, synchronicity and tempo are fairly easy to improve with a little positive reinforcement exercise.

By making a 3 second golf swing, I believe that you will find returning the club face to square at impact becomes a more natural and predictable result.

The difference between carrying a 3 wood that we have to protect from the ugly left side miss, and carrying a 3 wood that feels like a weapon of attack, one which is played aggressively, can quickly transform your enjoyment level.

After all, making eagles and birdies is fun !!
