ОтветитьSomeone asked me how I am able to speak 5 languages?
Surveys showed that Moroccans 🇲🇦 speak in average 2-4 languages for many reasons that I’m going to explains. First, 60% of Moroccans are Berber (native of North Africa) and berbers have their own language. In Morocco we learn Arabic and French in school since day 1 in school. In middle and high school Moroccan education system offer to teach another language other than (Arabic and French). So, students have a chance to choose between: Spanish, English, Italian and German - I am not sure about German though. So, this is how Moroccans end up speaking 3-4 languages if they finish their education. Because I am Berber I ended up speaking 5 languages once I got done with university education ( I end up speaking 1 extra language which is Spanish because I am a northern Moroccan and north Morocco is very close (geographically) to Spain and we have long history of cultural exchange between the two countries- we are able to receive the signal of their radio/and TV, so we are exposed to Spanish language every day - plus northern Moroccan dialect has a lot of Spanish words. Because, I am polyglot and because I love learning, I end up looking to learn other languages- I easily grabbed many vocabulary from Hindi when I was a teen because I was a big fan of their drama (just vocabulary- I didn’t have time or desire to study it). Then about 7 years ago, I started watching Turkish drama (with subtitles) and again I got hooked to it as I started learning it ( I put time and effort in it- I didn’t go to classes, I just tried to learn it my self at home)- now I am half way probably- I’m able to understand about 50% of the speech and able to carry basic conversation. Few months ago, I got introduced to K-drama and of course I got hooked to it and found my self (without feeling it or planning for it) trying to learn it. I couldn’t believe myself how quick I was in jumping trying to learn it- my husband too- he was surprised of this move (me too 🙂) I guess my long experience with learning different languages conditioned me hhhh. In fact, I never thought in the past that one day I would be learning Korean- I thought about Chinese though due to the rising popularity (I mean - statistics shows that Chinese, in the future, will be the most important language beside English for example). This is my story with languages and by the way many Moroccans are like me, because we are a touristic country and since Moroccans are known to be quick learners many of them are polyglot. In contrast, Turkey for example is another touristic country and matter fact, they receive way more tourists than us- Spain too, but Turkish people are known for not being able (or not willing) to learn English.
This would be my fantasy. If you know, you know 😁
ОтветитьThe Chinese go the Wikipedia route, (like the Arabs & Indians do with names), that's how you can tell it's them
