How is this even a comparison? The sl55 amg is a pig weighing 4300lb whereas 911 is a true performance car that weighs almost 1000lb less

I love porsches and was lucky enough to own one. But i gotta say compared to the SL the 911 looks like shit. The paint on porsches always lookd so dull and understated, like its 20 years old.

Could never even image fancying the SL when growing up. I was always a Porsche fan, and the SL was just ugly all along. But with this generation I wouldn't categorically mind having the new SL over a 911. They're about equally cool, and the SL would be a real contender now. Not that either is gonna happen anytime soon though 😂

Im a BMW fan, but since its release Ive fallen in love with the sl 63, or this 55. I agree the rear looks a bit odd compared to the front, which I love. I like the interior of it as well compared to other Mercedes products. Recently Merc has been doing too much closs and too many screens. the sl does not have that. But the car I do love

I don't understand what the 911 has to do with the SL, absolutely no proper conclusion can be drawn from a competition such as SL vs 911.

SL is the better convertible/cabriolet. The 911 is better as a coupe. These cars are different markets. Mat's conclusions sometimes don't understand, still a great reviewer.

My 2008 SL 550 is better style than any SL afterwards, and it looks better than the 911,,funny now a 15 year old SL looks and performs better than any pony cars current running and keep up with hemi or bmws

Matt. There is no SL 43. There’s an SL 63 which is the big brother to the car you have there. Should’ve compared the 63 to the 911. Not a valid comparison when it comes to performance!

I wish all manufacturers would stop the soft tops and go all hardtops. Top down yes they all look great but top up the hardtop convertibles almost always look better (minus that ugly Lexus thing). Take some inspiration from Corvette or Mazda for how to do lightweight hardtops. I would have bought a new Z4 if they kept it hardtop but it looks horrible top up. My 2016 Z4 looks better for way less money. There can be a frame behind your head that is fixed like corvette or Mazda. It still feels 100% like a convertible. Also the rear window that goes down like in a corvette is great and reminds me of my old Del Sol. Corvettes are just too big for my tastes and Miata is too small.
