Future proof is such a laughable term. I could buy RTX 4090 for 2000$ and it will get outdated after 4-5 years or I could buy a new XX60 generation every 2 years for the next 10 years for the same price. RTX 4060 is a good bang for a buck (it costs 320$ right now). Change my mind!!

Ive been looking into building my own gaming pc for 1440p recently. First time doing it myself and I’m considering getting the 4060ti paired with the ryzen 5 7600x and I’m honestly super confused as to what I should be doing

After finally purchasing this card, I did the tests myself alongside 16GB of RAM and a Ryzen 5 3600 on a 4K 55" screen. Running the game in the 2.0 version. The tests pretty much hit exactly as shown here, and my thoughts are the following:

For maximum image quality while also maintaining an acceptable performance, you can easily run this game at 4K using DLSS on Ultra Performance Mode + FG, with all settings on Ultra, including RT. It does maintain 50~60fps but occasional stuttter does happen and whenever pausing the game or opening menus/map, it needs a few seconds to adjust the FPS, so it does get in the way if you're aiming normal gameplay. My only recomendation to play in this 4K spec would be if you're just chilling, walking around, trying to role play, enjoying the city, etc, as the image quality, even if it's in Ultra Performance, it's actually better than 1440p Quality mode, or hell, even better than native 1440p, which is REALLY impressive.

Now for a normal playthrough, to really enjoy the game, I'd say to stick it to 1440p Ultra (including RT), DLSS Quality + FG. The game still looks really nice on a 55" TV but now running at a smooth 70~90fps with no stutters nor any fps adjustments when opening menus or the map (like it happens when in 4K), which brings full gameplay purpose.

Also tested the new Ray Reconstruction but found that as WORSE. First of all, to activate it you can't while using RT, only when Path Tracing is on, which in itself already brings the performance down quite a bit. Second, somehow instead of reconstructing the rays and act as a new denoiser to bring better image quality/clarity, it actually brings in a lot more artifacts to constant moving objects like fans, blurryness to NPCs and small objects like foods from street vendors, and also conflicts with effects like heat waves above foods. The only upgrade I noticed was to reflection, which indeed makes it a lot better, and SOME previous artifacts taken care of, like fences and other finer details that used to flicker/shimmer. So resuming all this: not worth it, completely disposable, at least for this card. Don't know if it works better with more powerful cards, but for the 4060 Ti it's a NO.

Some of my experiences with my 4060Ti 16GB, 1080p 60Hz monitor on this one today. FG I don't use much, but with some RT settings and FG on, I used more than 9GB of vram. With the rest of my testing 8GB of vram was enough. The default settings Ultra+RT+DLSS Quality is very playable >70fps, and I like that very much.
As energy consumption is important to me, I limit the game to 60Hz and set DLSS to performance (which looks good on my screen) and then I use less than < 100 watts, which is insanely low!
So this game is not a problem with this card at 1080p. Next I'm going to try The Last of Us.
As an oldskool gamer, I also need to install Return to Castle Wolfenstein as the multiplayer is still active, best looking game ever! 😅

Ray tracing is still such a fucking joke. 3 years after the game comes out, and a brand new 400 dollar GPU can't hit 1080p@60 with highest settings and RTX on?

Developers need to just give up on raytracing. The tech isn't there to run it effeciently, there's no reason slightly better lighting should be 90% the resource cost of rendering a frame. Just fucking bake the lighting into the textures for all I fucking care, just give us decent frames and hardware that can manage it before pushing all this STILL experimental garbage on the end-user.

Hey! I have a 4060Ti but I just can't get it ti reach the fps that you got in teh video on the same settings (for CPU I have a Ryzen 7 5700x so no bottlenecs). Do you have any advice on how to fix this? (In the video at 1440p High Quality DLSS you averaged arounbd 90 fps, when I play I average around 70, what could be the problem? :(

if you turn volumetric cloud quality to low there's a huge boost in performance with no noticeable effects to graphical fidelity

Watching videos while wondering what to upgrade my machine to. I have a GTX 1060 (Have your video for that in the other tab right now) and am thinking that the 4060 ti might be the best choice to upgrade to. If I'm only playing on games on medium settings and only want to stay above 60 fps, should last me a good couple years. In your infinite knowledge and expertise, what would be a good Ryzen to pair it with? I'm thinking Ryzen 5 7600x, but am not sure if that is too weak?

I mean it gives about the same performance as the RTX 3060 ti, but the power draw is like 60w less. So considering that I could swap out my 3060 ti for a 4060 ti and upgrade my CPU from one that is 65w draw to one that's 100w draw. ... all to avoid having to upgrade my PSU. Lol

its basically a 3060 ti it runs the same it cost the same it just has better dlss, raytracing and can do rtxremix thing when ever it comes out

with my 3060 ti I do ultra at 1440p with ray tracing shadows thats about it, and dlss balanced and it looks good and i get 60-70fps in most places with high 50's in really dense areas. Honestly even just driving around checking stuff out, sometimes I'll throw on ray tracing ultra lol an deal with the 30fps.. Was also planning on upgrading to a 4060 ti or 4070-4070ti but this 40 series run has been terrible imo, especially for the price. Will be skipping this series, and waiting for the next or praying intel comes through with a gpu in the 4070 or so lvl!

how come at 1440 ultra with RT and DLSS you're only getting 50fps at best when I've seen other videos at 1440p with a 5600x and a 4060ti getting 70-75 fps with RT and DLSS quality preset?
