why would the previous builder cover that up? That is great storage shelter, or a pit to do oil changes on your car from.
ОтветитьIncredible, great find mate
ОтветитьHad the house been bombed and collapsed onto it it would have became their tomb.
ОтветитьThat would be terrifying to be down there during a bombing. No light, I'm sure the air quality isn't too good and the fact of not knowing if you are going to survive yet alone get out with debris piled on top of the entrance. Yikes!
ОтветитьA good friend in Honolulu -- former mayor of the city, actually -- has an old air raid shelter in front of his house. It is sort of built into the ground -- you walk into it, and it has two entrances. It was clearly not meant to survive a direct hit, but the house is in an expensive neighborhood in Honolulu, so they probably only worried about -- well not much, except the possibility that a bomb might fall within a few hundred feet of their house.
ОтветитьWhen the bombs are dropping dont come knocking
ОтветитьI live two blocks from here.

ОтветитьI'd be afraid I'd disturb the rats. No way I'd go poking about that shelter.
ОтветитьAny progress or news on this ? Have you put it to use ?
ОтветитьNow 2018... So, how far has the Luton guy got with unearthing what looks like a Cold War nuclear bunker. It's very elaborate for a privately built WWII shelter. Some research into the house freeholder during the 39-45 years may reveal an important Civil Servant was in residency and the shelter built at the expense of tax payers. Being constructed in the front garden may suggest it was built at a time when people were far less socially paranoid. If someone openly built a bomb/fallout shelter in their front garden today I wouldn't fancy their chances against a desperate mob trying to break in as the ICBM's coarse toward their borough ward. Still, a fascinating discovery...just wish there was a conclusion to the story behind the bunker.
ОтветитьWeed wink wink 😉 😂
ОтветитьSnapchat anybody ?
ОтветитьI have the body of a pig
ОтветитьNow you have to park car on street
ОтветитьWe just found one in our back garden in Felpham West Sussex on the coast. Removed a shed to do decking, leveling soil then friends leg disappeared. Measured it at around 8 ft deep. Had old camp beds in there. Perfectly pointed brick walls, thick concrete roof. Ive been told by a senior citizen that some of these bunkers get confused as bomb shelters but were for British resistance in the event of german invasion.
ОтветитьOmg how cool is that
ОтветитьThese are all over the London and the South East. Is it unusual to find them in Luton?
ОтветитьKeep it you will need it

ОтветитьAn awesome find and asset to your property!
ОтветитьI have a similar one in Liverpool but a lot small (6' long x 6' high x 5'wide). A bit claustrophobic. My Dad used it as a coal store up to 1967. The 4 inch concrete roof is level with the ground and has a flight of brick steps down to it. It's very damp as rainwater and groundwater seeps in. I think it was built with the house in 1934 as war was looming. The nearest bomb fell 400 yds away but killed 3 in a semi. (3,000+ died in the bombing in Merseyside August 1940 to January 1942, then nothing).
ОтветитьIs there anymore videos your progress? Fascinating...
ОтветитьCheers mate clean it out and fix it up ww111 is very soon you might need it
