I’m late to the party by a whole year and WOW. Just finished watching this with my wife tonight and we were floored. Horror seems to be something that’s hard to do these days but it’s definitely one of those films that will stick with you long after you see it.

Absolute garbage movie one of my all time worst

I usually agree or understand with your takes, but this was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The script made no sense and wasn't that scary, just weird.

This was the most generic, by the numbers “horror” movie I’ve ever seen. Nothing that this guy says in this review is remotely true about this movie, and everyone else has had the same reaction as this guy. I need someone to explain what the obsession with this movie is, and this bootlicker isn’t doing the job

I’ve only seen this movie once and never want to watch it again, it wasn’t a bad movie but holy mother of god it’s so upsetting to watch, especially when you pause to read the VHS labels and you feel your heart drop to your stomach

I've never hated a character more than Justin Long's AJ. Holy shit I have NEVER wanted someone dead more desperately.

Zach is an awesome person. Started in a comedian group. And is showing he has vercitility. I love this move

I loved this movie. I watched it with my mom and we cried at the end. The monster was also a victim, she was more human than AJ or her father, both of whom were just regular human beings.

I was much more unnerved by the story of Frank, than by the mother. He is purely evil.

I felt that one of the hooks of the 2nd act was trying to figure out if AJ was the kind of guy to sexually assault a co-star.
It was one of several disappointments for me in this film when they spelled it out during the bar scene. Wouldn't it have been better to maintain some ambiguity or subtly hint the answer through his overall performance?

One of my favorite parts about this movie is that I didn't trust Keith up until he was murdered, I thought he was going to lure Tess into a trap when he was telling her to go "this way" and then bam, he's innocent

The first half was horror, the 2nd half was comedy

When she was going through the basement and finding all of the cages and stuff was one of the best performances I've seen in a horror movie in a long time. I can't even remember the last time I saw someone seem so absolutely terrified.

The start was ok, but then the second act and third were very boring, it's an average movie

What I expect from a movie is a good story, with pace, characters we care about, good cinematography, and some kind of message. Here we have an out of wack pace, characters we couldn't care less about, an OP monster, no real message. It's pretty much the new Candyman recipe. You need to dig deep to make it a bearable movie.

I dont get the praises fro so many critics. yes it's "unexpected" but if you take that away, there are many plot holes and basic and so many unexplained.

and the acting are amazing. that is for sure and I think that is the reason why almost everyone loves the first part

look at Attack on titan ( I know its anime, but its a bit similar with the mystery and feels like two different genre together, before the mystery or after the mystery ) when you found out the real answer, you dont feel cheated and most plot points are explained. you are still invested after you found out the mystery

yes it did keep me uneasy first part, but then its boring and not scary, creepy. yes, scary no and I really doubt ppl who said they love it, would find themselves rewatch many times. I think it is a movie ppl will love it at a time, but dont really rewatch/ talk about it for years to come

This movie was really good. As this guy is mentioning… most movies these days (especially horror films) are not all that great. With Barbarian, you also get some really authentic social commentary, like when the cops ignore Tess when she’s explaining the fire situation that’s going down.

Just came to see if the head line was a joke. This movie was a complete dumpster fire.

This movie changed my life. It validates my belief that you should never rely on good or bad reviews for a movie, just see it for yourself. That is the single good thing I can say about this movie. Ok cinematography was good too.

Really?! It's fun and refreshing. It's goofy logic that I can't overlook though.

I'm looking to find a movie that explores characters with monsters and supernatural stuff. That's not TOO scary and actually focuses on the characters or is entertaining. This movie was amazing. Only one part was creepy but the movie didn't scare me, but it did entertain me. I wish the lore was a little more complex and that's the only reason I didn't think it was perfect. Otherwise every character is great. This movie fulfilled me in a dark time in my life. One week ago lmao

A little late to this review but I've been on a binge of your stuff , gotta disagree with this review I thought the movie was overrated and about as subtle as a brick not nearly as clever as it's made out to be and not even that entertaining as a watch, but hey agree to disagree lol

Not good. You haven't seen a lot of horror movies, I guess.

I know I’m a little late to this, but I thought it was interesting how Keith had to go see The Basement for himself and couldn’t take Tess at her word. Seemed like it was offering something to say about how we often respond to victims and the allegations they make.

Another great part of this film is the music. The main theme is so haunting. A very 80s-style droning march that grows slowly, yet you can't stop it.

It's honestly one of my favourite parts.
