I forgive because I'm a Christian. Jesus forgave and that's what I follow with what he said to do.

The power of forgiveness is no joke. It easily took down a monster that violence and hatred couldn't for years. It turned that monster back into a human. Huge respect to the guy.

I’m no deist/theist or anything but forgiving someone for something that’s unforgivable takes strength! Keep in mind there are people that are so far from humanity that nothing can make them break like this! So either Gary was dishonest with his emotions which is fairly common in psycho/sociopaths or he had enough humanity in him to break down upon being forgiven! That doesn’t make what he did any less evil ofc and ofc he should face a punishment! But it amazes me that not even a psycho can handle forgiveness whether it be religious or not!

Let’s not confuse something, He can be forgiven by God, or by someone else, but justice must be done on Earth, so the land is not corrupted.

He is taken completley off guard. He probably expected to just hear hate and how evil and vile he is. And this is just my opinion, I think in that moment he felt regret when the father frogives him. And that hurt him the most

Maybe Gary really knows all of his actions , a Psycho is triggered for power , dominance and inflict pain on his victims, once experienced his brain will begin for more and if he refuses frustration its always coming .. some of them really know they need be stopped or killed because they will never stop .. bizarre ! Am sure Gary besides a Monster Will take that forgiveness till the last day and the ONLY good thing to think on his jail. Thats why he cried

I looked up if he was truly remorseful and the judge didnt buy it. This will sound very strange but i have really terrible thoughts of doing the type of stuff he did and i can manipulate very well. A lip quiver can not be faked. I truly believe he felt remorse. But in the end i dont know because i am jesus

Everyone is on here talking about forgiveness and God , The Holy Spirit ect. Forgiveness doesn't mean exempt from punishment! Secondly the man 4 gave him good for him ! Yet nobody on here mentions there is a place called hell. So stop with the you can't judge someone its only for GOD TOO DO. COOL ! IF THATS THE CASE HOW DOES HE STAND WITH THE COMMANDMENTS ? CASE CLOSED!!

When the victims' families insulted him, he looked at them like, "Why are you so angry at me?" But when the Old man came and forgave him, he wept

The psychopath feels positive emotions, but he can't feel negative emotions or feels them weakly

this reminds me of a story my psyich professor told us. It was about a woman who begain visiting their daughter's killer (he had killed 15 women, but i can't remember the name). They kept seeing each other for two years, having conversations while she tried to understand what happened, what led him to be this way. After hearing his story and understanding what led him to do what he did, she decided to forgive him. The killer up to that point had been pretty much emotionless, like a robot. But he started Bawling, and the guard came into the room to see him crying his eyes out while the woman lied on the ground after having fainted.

Sometime later, the killer's lawyer phoned the woman. He said that the killer was a changed man, spending his time trying to reach out to the families of his victims to try and voice his remores and crying loudly in his cell on a daily basis. So he said to the woman that he knew she had been visiting him, and asked what did she say to provoke such change.

She said she had forgiven him, something the lawyer initially could not believe. Her answer to that? "i did the worst thing i could do to punish him - i made him human"

My uncle was a man who destroyed our entire family. It was 20 years ago, but we are still financially paying for it. He took everything by force, our house, our money, our connections with family and friends, everything. For several years in my teens and early/late 20's, I was so angry. I had dreams of killing him, of taking everything from him like he did the family. I even ripped up his picture and considered him dead to me.

I held on to all of that rage and hurt, that want to get back at him. Then I remembered this clip about 2 years ago.
I became fascinated with serial killers in my teens and early 20's due to my anger towards my uncle. I watched documentaries about them and I've seen this documentary before..it wasn't until 2 years ago when I was 30 that I remembered the one about the Green River Killer.

I went back and watched it and got to the part where Linda Rule's father forgives Ridgeway..and I felt like maybe I needed to do the same. I wrote a letter to my uncle (never to give it to him, but to keep myself) and I forgave him. It was along the lines of 'I cannot let you hold me like this any longer. I refuse to be bound by my rage towards you, because then I would be bound to you which I can no longer have happen. I forgive you and now I must let you go.'

It was this gentleman who set me free with his example and it was only his words that let me think differently. I forgive my uncle and I feel free.

This man, the killer knows that he is useless and that he is a monster. He knows that how he sees himself as well as he know society sees him that way. The fact that the man apologised to him ruined that for him cause in a way was immune to the extremly angry opinion of others but when this man forgave him it destroyed that for him i assume... it made all his logic crumble and it cut deeper then any other comment about him... cause it was something he didn t expect... at all.
