I took the ending as Daniel shading that fake face for his own because he’s going back over to find a new kid and can’t have an adult face. That once’s he’s over the kids imagination will give him his new face. Daniel has died before and came back. We saw that in the shooting massacre. Going through this void just take you to an almost astral plain of our reality. That’s one there’s only one body at the end and not two on the pavement.

This is actually a ripoff of a Spanish movie called the lost souls of anima

I would 100% take Daniel on. Life is genuinely that bad that Daniel is only an improvement.

I think this was just a movie adaptation of Metallica's song "Sad But True"...

either that, or a grimdark "Drop-Dead Fred" remake...

It makes me really sad that so many people don't get that Daniel represents debilitating mental illness. It makes me feel really hopeless in fact. The mother was such a clear sign and also the mass shooter aspect. Idk how the filmmaker could have been anymore clear. I would cry but I'm all out of tears. This movie really hits home.

One of the Movie's with split Personally MC..

Before watching this Ending Explained video, I always thought that Daniel was a metaphor for mental illness, of course. After seeing the Brooklyn Heights shooter, Daniel showed up as a form of Disassociative Identity Disorder (multiple personalities) and Daniel is that dark force of his DID. After watching this video, this is more of a Session 9 type deal. Either way, it can work both ways: a separate personality and a dark, demonic force.

I think Luke found a way to break a hole in the house (barrier representation) and go back by jumping off giving Dan a different way out.
I wonder with that other guy trapped and changing if dan was human at one point (or at least something other than he is now), got stuck or trapped there, and being there slowly twists you into something else.

Random trivia:
The guy who plays Luke, Miles Robbins, is Susan Sarandon’s son. He’s a cool guy.

Based of a good bit of stuff I watch either real or fake when or if I have kids and they have an imaginary friend I'm definitely looking into it lol

Maybe Dan didn't go to the real world, maybe he simply ended his life because he was mad and tired of having to make fake friends to the loners just for slow ass chance to take control when they sleep.

I was honestly very disappointed that Daniel ended up being real. In my opinion the knowledge that you have a mental disease that's only going to get worse and worse while the rational part of you knows what's happening fights with the sick and delusional side that's spiraling is infinitely scarier than another demon story.

Therapist: Daniel is not real, he can't hurt you.

I like to think that the Daniel-Monster resides in a dimension different than ours and can't enter w/ his physical body, only his 'soul' can enter, for lack of a better term. Once his soul gets into our world he can enter into ppl weak enough to not withstand or even notice it. Chaos ensues until the body eventually dies, then he gets sent back to his dimension, rinse & repeat.

I can't help but wonder if Luke has some kind of epilepsy; my brother has the seizure disorder and flashing lights can set it off. Epilepsy + mental illness could = some really scary actions

The "horn face" guy is just like what happened when daniel first tried to take lukes body over and thier faces meshed together causing what looks like horns.

This one actually reminded me quite a lot of the dynamic between Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. Harris had contempt for creation itself, but he couldn't exert that wrath on his own. Yet, instead of finding someone who felt like he did, he found someone who was weakened by his contempt for himself. Harris then used Klebold's feeling that his life was meaningless to show everyone else that life is meaningless.*

Even more appropriate still that the barrier between worlds, the place Luke fell through, was an abyss. “For when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.” Harris in particular was enamored by Nietzsche, though I think it’s obvious he didn’t understand him.

* Klebold was obviously guilty for his part, and I’m not attempting to take that culpability away. The catalyst, however, was Harris (Harris was homicidal, Klebold was suicidal). Since that’s the dynamic I see mapped on in the movie, I think that's the relevant point of focus.

So was Luke able to get rid of Daniel before because the connection wasn't as strong, mentally? And somehow the kid(with the help of mom) was able to shut him away? I like the idea of other demons doing this as well(like what happened with his mom)

As soon as Dan applauded their destructiveness, encouraged him to sin and didn't like the idea of the Apocalypse (he knows what happens to his kind) I knew what he was. It was kind of obvious really, especially knowing what they feed off and them having to be trapped within something, symbolically and physically. And I SWEAR that this movie is based on an old Tales From the Crypt episode. It was damn good. And both Miles Robbins and Patrick Schwarzenegger were great in it.
