I was born and raised in Louisiana where all the bayous, creeks and lakes have Gar and I can't name 1 person that's been bitten. Never heard of a "Lethal" Alligator Gar😂

I swam with Gars at Alexander Springs Florida. They weren’t near as big as the gars in this video (biggest might have been 3 or 4 feet) but it was so much fun. The gars were harmless. Swam away from me no matter how much i swam after them.

I’m from Brownsville tx I have seen really huge gar on man made lake that is next to the fort brown hotel I’m Brownsville I used to see them on top after it rain really huge gar they looked huge maybe 10 ft or 12 ft gar

If you think about it they are quite gentle when you swim with them. But they turn into 6-7 foot long powerhouses of destruction if hooked

Alligator gar should be protected in some aspect in Texas. I feel like they should have game fish status and there should be some sort of harvest and/or size limit like with bass and catfish

Gar are my favorite fish to swim with. I like being around the gar pits and watching them loaf along or jump and play and hunt. I think they're misunderstood. Even accidentally hooking one when I'm fishing, they've never acted violent toward me. I mean yeah, I've gotten sliced when they flopped back in the water but they didn't mean anything by it... that was MY fault. Fish flop. It's what they do. Lol.

I personally think that alligator gar should be classed as a game fish to stop guys from going out and shooting 15 of them in one night with a bow. They’re such an amazing animal and need to be cared for since they are so slow to grow and reproduce

Swam with them most of my life in the Ochlockonee. lotta good 6 footers, never had anything happen except them brush up against my legs while wading and knock me over.

The gar isn’t gonna waste valuable energy and risk self injury ? on taking down such a large and similar in size creature it’s going to primarily target smaller easier prey to quarry.
