I think Ed was probably right that he could've been happy if Penguin didn't kill Isabella. Yes, Ed was afraid he would kill her, but she helped him overcome his fear. She had his hand on her throat and he didn't do anything bad. He got through it and they kissed. Isabella truly was the best thing to happen to Ed on this show. She was better than Kristin. Isabella accepted Ed for who he was. They had similar interests. It's possible that with Isabella, the Riddler split personality probably would have never came up again and be gone forever. Isabella could've helped Ed become a good person again in which no one would fear of him as a criminal anymore. I knew they were going to kill Isabella eventually so they can ensure that Ed became the Riddler, but it makes me sad that they still did so because Ed was the happiest he had ever been with her.
