The thing is is you can't really copy Mayweather's techniques. He is able to get away with breaking the core fundamentals because of his speed, positioning and reflexes. He's able to do things that other people just can't do, and the ones who try end up getting CLOBBERED like Adrian Broner.

Mayweather just had that shit you can't teach, he just had that rare 6th sense in the ring and his mind processed so fast and that's part of what made him so spectacular even against other world class fighters

Floyd is the opposite of “running”, man was in the corner of the rope right in front of his opponent and still can’t be hit

Nice video.

It feels like anyone fighting Mayweather needed 5+ separate strategies in their pocket going into the bout, and they needed to chop and change to avoid getting countered. It's almost like the worst thing you could do was spend your most effective techniques/combos on him repeatedly, as he downloaded, analysed and overcame his opponents' best weapons inside a round or two, then nullified them.

It's extremely impressive that fighters and their coaches prepared a full game plan going in, and have countless hours in the gym to drill it, and Mayweather was able to basically turn it against them on the hoof. I've seen so many clips of him losing the first couple of rounds and then absolutely dismantling his opponent for the rest of the bout to the point where he makes them look like amateurs. One round his opponents are a few points up and landing telling shots and the next, he flips a switch and they can't really touch him. That's crazy and extremely demoralising to fight against.

To put it this in context, there are countless rematch fights where boxers have several months to go away, figure out why they lost the first bout, make adjustments and still don't come close to winning the second fight. FMJ was able to master this process inside a few _rounds_, all while someone was trying to punch him in the face repeatedly.

Love him or loath him, the man's a genius.

If you put yourself in the corner and your opponent can't do much it takes away their spirit. It's a mental tactic.

Floyd Mayweather would have lost to Sugar Ray Leonard quick punching style to out box his opponents combined with flurries to the body and head would have knock Mayweather on the ropes with his guard down and Mayweather would lost the fight, Thomas Heard has longer reach and have power in his jabs and ability to fight off the ropes would have backed Mayweather to the ropes and jabbed him until Mayweather could not take it anymore and lost the fight, Marvis Hager would have pounded Mayweather onto the ropes and hit him with his power punches like Mike Tyson while Mayweather left his guard down when he is on the ropes and Mayweather would have lost the fight, Roberto Duran would have bulled roped Mayweather onto the ropes and hit Mayweather with his power punches and his experience to fight close up like Mike Tyson and Mayweather would have lost the fight. If your using history as a meter stick, Mayweather should not have an undefeated record.

Opponent selection, or when he faught certain opponents at certain times in their careers, doesn't they play hugely into whether or not he was "bold" or "reckless"?

These strategies could be seen as bold or reckless, sure, but maybe not as much when used against novices or old men.

Mayweather never put Muhammad Ali on his top 5 shortlist but he so used Ali's rope a dope tactics to which you could argue he perfected.even throwing a right hand lead is dangerous which Mayweather was good at getting away with?... Even Ali throw a right hand lead towards foreman as the first punch in that fight

There are many of Mayweather's opponents who were bigger, and or stronger, and or faster, and or more athletic, but none were better at making adjustments.

I’m don’t get how a Floyd got away away with his ballsy offense. You mention he’d just trust his timing but what does that mean? Could he predict when his opponents weren’t gonna punch? And if so, how? (Watching film, understanding they’re mannerisms?) like he’d really load those left hooks back. Yes he’s quick, but it’s still telegraphing. So as someone tryna get better at boxing, I wanna know how did he get away with it
