600hp Toyota MR2 vs McLaren 540C: DRAG RACE & 0-100-0mph

Wow... the whole episode was like scolding the mr2 or any build at home projects that their builds all suck and should just theow 250k at a super car. Hopefully this channel doesn't continue this dis respect of the car culture, which is ironic because this channel is about cars.

Driver is the problem and maybe change the shifter for closer gear changes. MR2 loosing lots of time in the shifts 600 hp should kill that McLaren… change your gearing in the Differential….

add an upto date launch control, auto transmission and abs system to the mr2 it will surely smoke the pitiful mclaren. British presenters specifically are very snobby when it comes to british cars even when this 15 year older car just made the mclaren sweat at 1/2 its cost in a shed with a few men.

The thing is, it’s not about who lost but you have to look at the fact, do you need a V6 540hp when a I-4 turbo can make as much power and only a second away in lost. That’s not bad when you compare the $250k price tag on McClaren vs maybe $40-50k spent on the MR2. 💁💁

I have a 1991 Mr2 2.2 litre my client purchased it brand new. I was his primary mechanic for 10 years, when he offered me the vehicle. ,5spd manual, large moonroof and 475,000 miles. In the process of rebuilding the top end, replacing the cooling system. So much fun to drive my daughter grew up commuting 100 miles a day to work. Over the hwy 74 Ortega highway. Hopefully it will drive again. Here in California they try to stop you from driving high mileage.

My first car was a 1991 ma MR2 converted into a turbo version after I blew the original motor. (Frayed throttle cable kept her stuck)... Never had so much fun driving in the city than I did in that car.

You know what?! I have far, far more respect for dude in the MR2! He built that shid, maybe with some help, but that's HIS car. Not just some rich guy going and buying a car that does all of the driving for you. You have to DRIVE that MR2. In a super expensive super car you can sit back, relax, smash the gas the floor, leave it there and maybe pull a couple of paddles on the steering wheel. That's it. The car does all of the driving. You just steer it. The MR2 and all of the other bad to the bone built cars are real cars! Don't get me wrong, I have a love for supercars too! But in this case, the host, in my opinion, threw shade on not just dude, was it Carl, but every other builder out there, keeping the OG cars and life going. I'm not impressed and gave this video a thumbs down for it. I'm very impressed by that MR2 and dude for handling being disrespected publicly like a man and a gentleman. Off camera.....there may have been words......

Quoting PEAK hp is the not really tellring much of a story. It's the hp and torque the engine has throughout its operating range that dictates its performance. That's why the Mclarens wins out. Smaller engines with turbos will always be disadvantaged. Even super high tech racing 4 cylinder engines to an extent.

I was with you until you started boasting. Try a K swapped Mr2 with sequential trans and I bet money the Mclaren will fall. Plus a good set of radials and a driver mod would have made a HUGE difference. The gap stayed the same after the MR2 stopped spinning.
Not to mention $ 150 - 200K vs $15 -20K ? I could build an MR2 for less than $20K that would not only gap that Mclaren but run out of its natural life. LOL !!!!
