SWIM GOOD LYRICS
[Verse 1]
That's a pretty big trunk on my Lincoln town car, ain't it?
Big enough to take these broken hearts and put 'em in it
Now I'm drivin' 'round on the boulevard, trunk bleedin'
And every time the cops pull me over, they don't ever see them
They never see them
[Pre-Chorus]
And I've got this black suit on
Roamin' around like I'm ready for a funeral
Five more miles 'til the road runs out
[Chorus]
I'm about to drive in the ocean
I'ma try to swim from somethin' bigger than me
Kick off my shoes and swim good, and swim good
Take off this suit and swim good, and swim good, good
[Verse 2]
Got some pretty good beats on this 808 CD, yeah
Memory seats I'm sittin' on stay heated
I woulda put tints on my windows but what's the difference?
If I feel like a Ghost, no Swayze
Ever since I lost my baby
[Pre-Chorus]
I've had this black suit on
Roamin' around like I'm ready for a funeral
One more mile 'til the road runs out
[Chorus]
I'm about to drive in the ocean
I'ma try to swim from somethin' bigger than me
Kick off my shoes and swim good, and swim good
Take off this suit and swim good, and swim good, good
[Bridge]
I'm goin' off (Oh, my pretty love)
Don't try stopping me
I'm goin' off (Throw me a line)
Don't try saving (Broke my heart)
No flares (Broke my heart)
No vest (Drove my love)
And no fear
Waves are washin' me out
[Chorus]
I'm about to drive in the ocean
I'ma try to swim from somethin' bigger than me
Kick off my shoes and swim good, and swim good
Take off this suit and swim good, and swim good, good
[Outro]
Don't die

Him hitting the Ocean could be referring to his actual stage name. Once he hits stardom, there might be no going back. He will inevitably change, the fame will change him. He will try to “swim from something bigger than” him, meaning try to stay the same as he was before the fame, but who knows if that will happen.
When he does hit the Ocean, he will move past his broken heart and begin his life as a true entertainer: Frank Ocean.
Hope he Swims Good and keeps making genuine music!

I think it’s about him coming out. He has been giving us subliminal hints in his lyrics all along about his sexuality but we’ve failed to catch on hence the line “I would have put tints on my window but what’s the difference if I feel like a ghost, no swayze” like in the movie Ghost, he’s there but we can’t see him or should I say we chose not to see him. He’s going to leave the safety of dry land (him being in the closet) and drive into the ocean (him coming out) and swim from something bigger (media, fans etc.)

The “Ocean” symbolizes the place where there will be a rebirth. The sea symbolizes escape and freedom, from “roaming around” in a solemn and despondent way. Feeling sorry for himself, Frank understands that he can put tints on his window, and try to hide. However, it’s not worth it, especially if it makes him feel like a ghost. Where he is wandering around angry, with no home. It’s no coincidence that he doesn’t actually “drive in the ocean,” until he reaches the bridge of the song. In song structure the bridge of a song serves as a transitional period near the end of a song. This technical bridge leads him to his ultimate transition, hovering over the ocean. The ocean is a void that holds promise, but can also be threatening. Frank drives into the ocean on his own faith, seeking an independence that can free him from this state that he’s in. The waves will wash him and cleanse him. It’s essentially a baptism, a rebirth of sorts. Frank knows there is a risk of death, or failure. Which explains the no, no Don’t Die chant at the end of the song. He’s hoping for the best.
This is Frank blatantly taking us along with him on his journey. With respect to revealing his love for another man and his ability to love men in general, Frank knows that this is a risky move, but he doesn’t want to fake it any longer. He’s going into the ocean, taking all the emotional baggage from his past (his lost love) and heading to freedom. In his letter Frank describes that maybe it takes a near death experience to finally feel alive. This near death experience can be his symbolic plunge into the ocean. Now he feels alive, revealing his truth.
