These are not the biggest eruptions on Earth. Infact if all of these eruptions happen at once wouldn't compare to a flood basalt eruption. They are so massive that there isn't a classification for them.

The only reason Io's volcanic eruptions seem so big is due to the moon's weak surface gravity of only 0.18g or an acceleration of 1.7m/s^2 compared with Earth's 1g and 9.8 m/s^2 acceleration. If Io's volcanoes were on Earth, their volcanic plumes would only reach about 100 km in height. If Mount Toba were to erupt on Io, its volcanic plumes would reach well over 600 km high!

I would rate them like this: Taupo (8.1), Yellowstone (8.2), Toba (8.4), La Garita (8.5).

Toba still scares the pants off me. Like, there’s a big, beautiful lake in Sumatra called “Lake Toba”. It’s huge…100km long and about 60km wide. $10 if you can guess what the lake really is 😰
