Good on you James for sharing this information I already have taken care of this some years ago a package of a large aluminum pot, tea pot, frying pan and a smaller pot with the 230 gram gas container and a separate screw on electronic ignition device with arms that spread out and folds down and lives in a small plastic container. Plus a few other types like a portable pot belly stove which needs proper transportation as there is no way I would carry it on my back lol. Happy belated Easter by the way too.

Hey JR....over the years i have bought almost all those types of "stoves" and stocked fuels for each of them. Each cooking system has it positives and negatives. My recommendation is to actually use the cook sets as to be familiar with and make sure the system works for your intended use. 👍

FireDragon, the new "Esbit", can also use Esbit tabs in a pinch.

Any opinions on possible safety issues with storing cooking fuels in a car, especially in the summer heat? I think solid fuel would be the safest. I wonder about isobutane canisters and alcohol bottles.

The solid fuel cooker and tablets were standard British Army issue when I was there in the 1970's. The chemical tablet was hexamine.

A really well-presented and useful video. I would note that Jetboil produces stoves with a more adjustable flame and thus are more suitable for cooking rather than just boiling water.

Good video! I have 2 Kelly Kettles (one as backup JIC) because my grandfather has owned one for almost 40 yrs and recommended it. His is still going strong although it's full of scratches now. I'm recommending it because it's extremely well built and will last a long time if taken care of. I also have the Firebox because of the versatility of fuels it will use and because it folds down so flat. I have it in my bugout bag.

A handy item is the Vargo Titanium Bifold Grill and it's carrying case. It's a great way to grill meat , of any kind. Then there is the Vargo titanium Hexagon burner. I use a Evernew titanium alcohol stove in mine as a quick heat source. The mix and match possibilities are numerous.
Example : You can use it as it is or with a Vargo Titanium Fire box. The Fire box gives you a controlled area for the fire , up off the ground. What I like is the fact you can get fuel , dead , downed , wood around the campsite.
One other like the Esbit tabs but with alcohol. I took a Fire Dragon stove , sealed the bottom corners of the pan with J.B.Weld. Then cut carbon felt to fit in the tray part of the stove. 1/4 inch thick ( 7 pieces ) the length of the tray , even with the sides of the tray. Add denatured alcohol to it , light it and you have a narrow and long flame ideal for a canteen cup.

I've got most of the ones available as a camper. In the British Army they use fire dragon gel that turn to liquid as soon as it gets hot . Use 2 at least. I have the Crusader cup with water bottle. (the UK version of Pathfinder). I use an alcohol stove too - I use an old hip flask for the fuel with a warning on it, I don't need one I don't drink alcohol.
Twigs are everywhere - I collect on my way to camp. I use Nalgene bottles and a water bladder on my pack. Have 3 ferro rods in your pack, one on you, one attached to your knife the other in your I-FAK. And I have 3 firebox/bushbox stoves.

if you have small twigs or sticks, use them instead of adding a 2nd esbit tablet. conserve the hard to replace items. Scrape the tablet, make a few shavings to help get the tablet burning.

Apologies if this has been mentioned in the comments, but the Firebox will additionally run on isobutane canisters using the Trangia gas burner as an insert. So the stove really does use just about any kind of fuel.

Hey. Cooking with wood is the only sustainable long term solution, but gas and alcohol are nice for lockdowns and such.
When it comes to cooking out in the woods, no wood stove is going to be good enough to cook for a few people, honestly. Just get some good old Cast iron pots and a pan. Used to cook on fireplaces for decades or centuries, for good reason. If you are dead set on a small woodstove, you can make one easily from a large can of any size, or even a metal bucket. The Ikea Utensil holder is also one of the backpackers' favorites - 3€ 120grams and it's large enough to cook for a small group if you keep adding fuel.
We have lighter pot options nowadays, as an alternative to cast iron and I personally really like Stainless billy pots. Tatonka has one in which the lid is a pan, so it adds versatility. Literally all you need to cook out there for 30$.
