THE WORST Focus Trees In Hearts of Iron 4

I just came here after rage-quitting for the first time in my life from hoi4, because i realized that there is no way to reverse the hyperinflation caused by the chinese focus tree. I just spent half a day micromanaging the long march through siberia, invading the soviet union in reverse, and now i'm stuck with hyperinflation for the rest of the game? cmon paradox...

Edit: I get that you don't have to do all the focuses, but when you're playing a nation for the first time, you kinda just do them all to see what happens, and the fact it literally seems like you're not meant to do all of them just rubs me the wrong way... It feels unfinished.

The UK Monarchist path doesn’t involve a civil war and if you do the Blackshirts path the Civil War can be done before the end of 1936. And also you get the ability to form the EU.

As a hoi4 player with no dlc and only 300 hours in the game I can say that the generic focus tree has some good benefits

For a war game, I find it funny you just cannot pick what ideology you start with. It would be very interesting to pick say India or Canada but as Faschist, something like that.
Also anybody remember when they nerfed the delay on justifying wars on neighboors? You used to be able to justify on like 2-3 at once. It was very usefull for small nations to expand quickly before WW2 proper. I guess there's room for modding stil even after all these years 🙂

Ironically, I loved when China had the "default focus tree" in early patches. You could do some really neat things with it and it did not feel constrained as it has been since.
I tried all permutations of the communist china and China per say, and it was boring and a huge waste of time. Like by the time you can actually do anything WW2 is over and you either have a mega ally group every where guaranteeing everything, or the same with a mega germany/ussr. In fact that is the problem with most of the focus trees they rework. If it's a quick civil war and it's done great, but if it drags on or you get destroyed by a powerhouse while doing focuses then it becomes boring/annoying.

Germany's oppose bad leader works fine, the UK one isn't too bad either. But the rest? meh. Like focus trees for france when you get jumped by germany in 1940 isn't really useful, unless by some miracle you play with friends and Germany leaves you alone to do w/e you want... I agree with you, those focuses should at least impact the game and the country in a meaningful way and very quickly. Maybe they'll have another rework in the future, who knows.

The focus tree of Hungary for Austria-Hungary is an fucking F. Its ridicolous czechoslowakia almost always declines and u only get cores on land and no demands expect austria.

Just gave South Africa a go, tried to break away from the UK and liberate all of Africa and it was so gd difficult to get things rolling.

I agree with most of it but the soviet union is defenitely an s tier. Especially if you dont want a real civil war and just cheese the template and lend lease mechanics

Personally, I love the British Monarchy focus tree. I know, it doesn't have a whole lot to it (most of it is just war goals). Still, it's got some fun, alt-history flavor. Like what if, in the wake of WW1, the British monarchy had gained more power and decided to restore and strengthen the Empire? Plus turning the US into a monarchist puppet is sort of funny. I ended up playing through and bringing monarchy back to all of Europe.

Something you missed is the facist Australia path is literally bugged. Theres a focus which has a zero percent chance to work no matter what you do. It also has a focus that asks you to give up land to join a faction you can join for free.

So Australia is pretty much only playable historically.

The first time i played executor redux after i bought battle for the bosporus i took down afeghanistan and iran and when i was going to take down turkey i enter at war with the entirety of the world and i had to reset because the bloody focus tree gives them german and british garantees for no f*ckin reason and i hate it

as a Czech, i was SO dissapointed how much they fucked Czechoslovakia up.
Hungary, Yugoslavia and Romania get GREAT focus trees, and Czechoslovakia gets... Well, as you said, a glorified generic tree

Also I would like to say, the Raj focus tree is completely trash. The fact that you have to do 3 railroad focusses of 70 days in order not to get the famine, which does nothing aside from building some railroads which surprise surprise you have 0 trains for.
You get super late game some focusses which allow you to get more resources, wow you have like 5 states with resources, little bit of oil, 2 allumium, some steel, enough chrome and tungsten and rubber.

70 day focus for 1 naval dockyard, its not much. Fee like there are at least 5 focusses that need serious buffs for the Raj

We need a germany dlc (Hitler Events like Stalins paranoia and strengthen Germany so it really takes the usa uk and soviet union to beat them

The Argument about the polish Focus Tree that its historical Path is not good and thus it should be in a lower tier i find a bit dumb, because who would even go historical when you play Poland? You will be getting destroyed between the UDSSR and Germany. No one would pick this

SS separate focus for germany! Basically the “arians” go rogue. Whole world hates and condemns them for their ideology and practices. Basically trade is out of the question. Would love to see this implemented or at least a mod. 🤘

You can also form macedonian empire with greece you forgot that , and if i were you i would put greece to s tier because you can form 3 empires/nations with it byzantium,macedon and greater greece.

Czech focus tree sucks it is one of the worsts in the dlc if they copied better Czechoslovak mod for the dlc the would done better

My opinion about Germany. Her focuses really need to be reworked, as many of them don't really fit with the historicity. Not to mention the demilitarized Rhineland, which should be on the entire border with France. Also, my favorite topic is the Reichkomassariats. Not only are there few of them, they do not correspond to historicity along the borders. Sorry for my English. I wrote everything with a translator

Turkish focus tree sucks ass. No lies told. Paradox has to revamp that focus tree and change a lot of the stuff. For example make Nihal Atsız a country leader for Fascists instead of just an advisor, not to mention how the leader traits are straight up bad for İsmet İnönü and Fevzi Çakmak, it would be a lot better if it was like Stalin, building some good buffs up for the leader, most importantly, though, the Turan path could at least be revamped to be somewhat like Ottomans, first you declare yourself as the Turan Khaganate, then you start to take lands from the USSR, Iraq, France, China etc. and integrate them.

I don't like how Japan's focus tree lasts possibly about 3 years max, like I have access to suicide craft before I am at war with China sometimes

Honestly the worst part of decolonizing in HOI 4 is that all the new countries run down their focuses and spit out units equipment and relation interactions that cause the game to eat all the memory on your PC

My favorite focus tree is the portugal monarchist with the unification with brasil. And afterwards you are more or less free to take Spain and become a major country. Portugal is great. Favorite country in HOI
