10 JRPGs That Are a 10/10 | You Can’t Miss These!

Skies of Arcadia is still my favorite JRPG to this day. If there is one game that ties it, it is Ys VIII

Dragon Quest VIII is the best game in the series.

Played all of these and highly recommend each one.

That's a very good list you got there, you did miss Phantasy star online episode 1-2 on the dreaamcast and xbox 1 classic, also on gamecube I believe that game is also one worthy on your list.

The only game on this video I actually think is a 10 is p4g, most are just nostalgic or only on inferior hardware like the switch

Cold Steel is very bloated unfortunately, it should have been 3 games, not 4, you truly realize this when you play Reverie afterwards as it's so refreshing and perfectly paced in comparison

A great list that brings me a lot of nostalgia. I feel fortunate to have played most of these games looking back. I do feel Suikoden 1 or 2 need a spot on this list and also Valkyrie Profile both of which pioneered very unique contributions to JRPGs. Though credit for the side-scrolling and action combat for Valkyrie Profile was likely inspired by either Symphony of the Night or Tales of Destiny, they are both action RPGs while I consider Valkyrie Profile a full RPG with platforming elements.

Sorry but my tier are not this one, The best JRPGs are Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story, FFVII,FFVIII, Persona 2, Persona 4 Golden, Golden Sun saga.

Star Ocean: Second Story Remake (2023). I would put it above FF 7 or 10. It was phenomenal.

I wish they would release a complete Chrono Trigger remake built from the ground up to be something like the modern Dragon Quest 11.
I also wish there was a full Chrono Trigger anime telling the entire game story in modern anime form.

That is a problem though I mean for the Rrails series if you aren't already in it you kind of have to start from the beginning and FF7 has something similar spanning a story over 3 games and 2 consoles. Various games franchise but when you make it so intricate, expensie, and or hard to get into then you get flops

i cant agree with trails games. they fell off after ghagharv trilogy. Xenoblade games are just so damn bad vocally. FF9 was just boring and Zidane was such a bad character

My problem with these lists is that they are all beeing seen through rose-tinted glasses. I mean jeez, I wouldn't have the patience for a single one of these games these days. Someone new to jrpgs should most definately miss these and instead play something more modern as to not be put off the genre entirely from the getgo.

I loved Shin Megami Tensei V and the differents endings you can get and the way you can talk with foes. Kudos to Idun ! Now I´m gonna play SMTIV and Persona 5. Personal opinion, I like more FFVI than Chrono, but they are both top quality.

Phantasy Star 4 had combi attacks before Chrono Trigger, it's a fine RPG but I personally feel it's overrated. Love seeing SMT5 in these lists but always a lack of SEGA representation.

Xenogears (insane story and various battle (in person and gear forms), Legend of Dragoon (so under rated), FF Tactics (great story too)

I loved my Sega Dreamcast. While I was aware of the RE games, Code Veronica on the SDC was the first time i finished one. Plus many other games, what a great system indeed.

Xenogears is a very very great game, I haven't encountered any story that could beat this

FF9 is the best final fantasy, good pick.

First of all, respect for not just shoe horning FF7 in here. I get why it's considered "the best in the series" and I respect what it's done for jrpgs as a whole, but I don't think it's top 3 let alone the best in the series.
Secondly, there's a surprising lack of Legend of Dragoon on here. I get that that game has not aged well aesthetically, but if you can get past the graphics in my opinion it's one of if not the best jrpg ever made...at least of the ones I've played which has been a lot.

You know, I've got to say that I will never understand why do people have games of the "The Legend of Heroes" saga in such high esteem. I've played "Trails in the Sky" and "Trails of Cold Steel" 1 and 2 and... Yeah, they're not that well written. In all three there is the same problem: there's a massive ton of filler. Notice I said "filler" not "character develpment" or "world building". No, it's just filler. Most of the conversations can be cut completely from the games and you lose absolutely nothing. They go on and on over the same topics as if people playing the games were stupid. They also tend to throw a lot of big words related to politics but they do nothing with it. Like, they would mention some governing body and that's the only time it is mention...

As for gameplay, they are fun enough games but they are waaaay too long for their own good. Partially cause the story keeps going in circles and they take 10 sentences to say what most people would say in one.

Sega’s continuing aversion to money means they will probably never do anything with Skies of Arcadia sadly 😔

While Persona 5 is among my favourite gales you managed to sell me on Persona 4. This far I've kind of steered away from the previous games of the franchise but this Black Friday discount of -30% seals the deal. Adding it on my long list of to-play games.

Also solidified my purchase of Xenoblade 1. Have played the other two and while #2 was ok, if not even good, #3 was absolutely amazing. Hoping that #1 will surpass #2 but most likely wont reacj the greatness of #3.

Glad to see someone picking P4G over P5. I have hundreds of hours in the modern Personas and while P5 is an improvement in terms of gameplay, it was a let down in so many aspects, specially from a writing and storytelling perspective. I'm afraid that I'm one of the few people that think the game has many flaws, very glaring in my opinion but most people claim it to be a near perfect game when I think it's far from it.

Not sure how SMT V gets rated so high.
