Great video sir. I just finished doing a complete teardown of my first gen SBC 350. Straight away I found cylinders 1,3,5 and 7 rod chamfers were to the front and 2,4,6 and 8 were chamfer towards rear. Was there ever any exceptions to the forward chamfer rule?
ОтветитьWhere does one get a piston as such?
ОтветитьIt very interesting
ОтветитьI didn't see checking the rod and crank journal's for proper clearance with plastic gauge
ОтветитьShould I put oil on rings before installing them?
ОтветитьI know this is old but my hyper pistons call for .026 top middle ring gap for street/strip. 0.14 is what you set it for. How come?
ОтветитьWhat if u miss a couple and put the dots downward how bad is this
ОтветитьI have a 350 .040 over …. My gap is ..20 … what the most you can be? Tyia
ОтветитьSecond ring should be about 4 thou over first ring
ОтветитьDo you do gapiping the oil rings too or just the upper two ones ?
ОтветитьYou are way to tight. At least .005 for every inch for bore. Why I see so many top rings lands on pistons blown off today plus a wreck motor. Hyperatic piston even put more heat into the ring which causes ring butt. I run .030 to .035 on the top ring. .030 on the second to be on the safe side. GM says there is no power lose up to .060 on rings gaps other than more blow by. So why would you take a chance to wreck your engine. Just run .005 per inch of cylinder bore. 4 times .005 =.020. I run .030 to .035 on the top ring. I have seen so many top ring lands blown off from running so tight.
ОтветитьAny thoughts are have you ever tried to use the next oversize piston rings? They would obviously need to be filed to the minimum end gap. Any issues on sealing against the cylinder walls? Thx
ОтветитьThanks Pete....It's such a relief not to see some dooshnoz talking out their suck all pubed up like a womans crotch. You know that dirty unkept hobo look.
ОтветитьI just did this. Not sure how much force it should be taking to turn motor with hand wrench 🔧. Almost spins the engine stand when I rotate engine. Is something too tight?
ОтветитьDo oil rings rails have up n bottom
ОтветитьAwesome videos Pete. And you've replayed nearly every question asked in the comments. Too bad you don't film such builds anymore.
ОтветитьGreat tutorial. Thank you!
ОтветитьI habe no concept of the hassles of editing and filming but I wish someone would do a nonstop long form unedited sbf build from stop to finish
ОтветитьI have the same pistons and rods pete & the same rings but they check out around 10 11 thousands with a 30 over bore will it be ok
ОтветитьIm sorry a ford 302 1996 block
ОтветитьU dint lube the piston ring and cylinder walls ??
ОтветитьGreat video, good info and interesting to watch. Thanks for a lot of the good tips, my only 2 cents are, yes "clicking" the torque wrench multiple times may move it out of accuracy faster, however if fasteners still move when you click it the second or third time then it is indeed torquing it even finer and closer to the mark. A lot of the machinery manuals I use at work specifically tell you to do this. First click is within manufacturers tolerance for the torque wrench (assuming it's been calibrated), sometimes that is pretty damn close to the money and it wont move after that on the same setting, other times it's 3-6 percent off on the initial click and will need additional clicks if you want the actual torque closer to what the wrench is set and calibrated to. Keep up the awesome videos though
Ответитьvery nice video and for the details. thank you for the help.
Ответить👍👌🙂👍👌🙂
ОтветитьDo you have to use a “plastigauge” for the connecting rods?
ОтветитьI like the program
ОтветитьDid you check the thrust on the crank after it's bolted in?,
Ответитьi like the way u set ur pistons in all at one time instead of as u mentioned.. assemble set it aside.. i like to do them all at once individually as well.. its good peace of mind.. lol
Ответитьthanks you solved my confusion how to measure it. I watched 19 videos no one explained that easily like you did
ОтветитьFantastic video and explanation, thank you!
ОтветитьI am building believe it or not the same set up. This video is perfect for my project. Thank you so much appreciate it.💪💪💪💪💪💪
ОтветитьReally helpful 👍💯
ОтветитьGood video ... give chip a break😅
ОтветитьBest video yet!
ОтветитьHello sir, can I get your contact?
ОтветитьHow do you know you’re bearing clearances is right?
ОтветитьRing two gap should always be larger than top ring. Why? So that compressed gasses that pass through the top rings can go down into the oil ring and then into the oil drain holes of the piston then down inside the piston and into the crankcase. If ring two gap is smaller than ring one then compressed gasses are restricted between one and two causing some back pressure wanting to lift the top ring off its seat. In this video ring one was 18 thou and ring two was 19 thou so just about OK.
Ответить👍
ОтветитьVery Informative and well done. Thanks so much for video and help!
ОтветитьCan l used piston ring gab0.020inch top,0.025 second, oil 0.015 for my Hyundai Getz 2002 petrol
ОтветитьThank you!! I bought a 390 to replace the 289 in my wife's cougar to take it back to factory specs. Trusted the seller and did a compression test last night... 3 cylinders low pressure. Want to keep the block as it matches the car but don't want to spend 10-15k on rebuild. Going to bring it in the basement for a winter project going to watch a lot of videos and this one was excellent. Can't believe you put your phone number on at the end that is amazing
ОтветитьIs that diseal engine or petro
Ответить"Click it 5 times, all you're doing is wearing out your torque wrench" Priceless!
ОтветитьThere’s just something so satisfying about watchin an engine bein built!!! Like watchin your own baby grow and bein born on that first fire up!!! ❤
ОтветитьIt's not standard bore if it's. 030 over
ОтветитьIn the motorcycle service manual that I saw, the ring gap measurement is indicated to be measured at the bottom of the cylinder.
You made the measurement at the top of the cylinder.
If replacing piston rings on a 2007 suv with 116k miles, do you recommend replacing pistons too if there are no signs of damage to the pistons?
ОтветитьThe mistake most mechanics do including me grossing gaps on oil rings only the spring oil ring must be crossed but the two must always be parralel to each other look at oil rings you put for the first time
Ответить
