On the surface SG seems prosperous but you need to measure success by something more than purely GDP. I spent 3 years in SG and 3 things were apparent (1) the working culture is very hierarchal and oppressive (2) cost of living is very high (3) society there is very strict.

Singapore is rich because it chose to maintain a high valued currency. If Malaysia, India, indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, china etc chose to maintain a high valued currency, they can be great countries too.
