Automatic Check Weigher System - Electro-Mechanical Program - Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology

This is a capstone project for the 2023 electro-mechanical program at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology.

This project retrofitted and updated an all-fill check weighing system. The team created a feed system, 3D printed containers, rebuilt conveyors, replaced the load cell, created a pneumatic reject system, and that was all before the logic and programming.

They used a Siemens @Siemens PLC and HMI with the Siemens TIA portal software @SiemensSoftware to write ladder logic and create HMI screens for the system. They also retrofit AC motors controlled by Allen-Bradley Powerflex VFDs to the conveyor system.
