David Sutherland (Beano artist) passed away yesterday ;(
ОтветитьI love the beano my favourite comic. Bash Street Kids my favourite strip.
ОтветитьAnd also maybe do some other uk humor comic.
ОтветитьDo eagle and also scream and action
ОтветитьAnd maybe do battle
ОтветитьDo whizzer and chip.
ОтветитьI don’t know if you’ve heard of it but I read a copy of toxic magazine back in the day.
It used to have its own recurring characters called team toxic, I don’t think they’re in the magazine anymore though.
Do the fleetway and dc Thomson comedy comic. And also there action line too. With dc Thomson commando warlord and also Buddy and fleetway action scream 2000ad starlord and tornado
ОтветитьExcellent video mate! I probably should do a video covering an issue from my era (which is about 5 years after the issue you cover in this video). It's mad how much has changed about the comic since the late 90s!
ОтветитьAnd also i want you to do every single beano and dandy crossover
ОтветитьI loved the Beano of the 1980s. I stopped after they changed the design in summer 1988 (the 50th year anniversary).
They should have left it alone 😢
I only started collecting dandy annuals/compilations in 2021 and I missed out on soo much.
ОтветитьFun fact: I was in the Beano over a year ago
ОтветитьDennis The Menace is my fave character.
ОтветитьBrilliant video. More beano content please 🎉
ОтветитьAmazing video so excited for more of your beano videos!
ОтветитьJoanah is underrated. Not 100% sure he was Beano though?!
ОтветитьGreat video! I stopped reading The Beano earlier this year, all of the changes made it less enjoyable to me. (I started reading it in 2018.) My favourite era has to be from the mid 60s to the mid 90s, once Dennis’s design was changed to be smaller and less “menacing”
ОтветитьCuthbert & Plug are my two favourite 'Bash Street Kids', Cuthbert is abit more part of the gang these days, he recently joined the other 'Bash Street Kids' at the Bash Street Kids summer holiday club.
ОтветитьAnd also made do scream, and all those uk girl comics
ОтветитьAnd also maybe do the last issues of dandy that could be fun
ОтветитьThe beano has gone it’s fucked end of I got one not long ago and it’s just full of peddled bullshit
ОтветитьAnd Here some more stuff. What is Buster
What is whizzer and chip
What is onik
What is the topper
What is Beezer
And also do Smash uk comic
ОтветитьVery interesting.
I used to read Beano comics when I was a kid and a preteen.
My favourite Beano comic strips are Dennis and Gnasher, Bash Street Kids and Roger the Dodger.
In January 2005, I discontinued buying Beano comics when I was nearly fifteen years old because I thought I had outgrown Beano comics.
I also used to read Dandy comics when I was a kid and a preteen.
My favourite Dandy comic strips are Desperate Dan, Winker Wattson, Bananaman (I don't care he's currently in Beano) and Korky.
In about late December 2004, I discontinued buying Dandy comics when I was fourteen years old because I thought I had outgrown Dandy comics.
The beano is my hero g 😎👍👏👏👏👏🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
ОтветитьPlug did get his own strip in the 1974 Topper annual. He catches a dopey thief who was trying to steal the silver trophies at a fair.
ОтветитьI love this comic because it’s soo not funny I have a whole collection of them from the from start to finish nearly 100 from the 60s
I even have a Christmas specials
Great video!
ОтветитьNo one remembers triffic
ОтветитьAre you a real Brit?
You hate the footie?
It's too woke now. Best time for the comic was back in the 80's 👍
ОтветитьThis is one of the greatest publications in the world. My uncle was British so he used to bring buttloads of issues for me and my brother for Christmas. We didn’t always understand the slang, but it was still a lot of fun. Also, yes, I believe Little Plum wasn’t offensive, just a product of its time that went on WAY past when it was acceptable to draw these characters.
ОтветитьNow isn’t it odd that Britain comics had big dichotomy where we had wholesome and mischievous Beano while their more popular contents are exact opposite (like 40k, 2000AD, and “British Invasion” comic writers like Alan Moore).
Same with literature since even Lord of the Rings and Hobbif were more Tolkien disillusioned with heroic stories and had “some guy from village dragged into adventures and horrified at conflict” (Bilbo had happy ending but Frodo got PTSD).
DING
ОтветитьYou know, if US Dennis and UK Dennis met in a McDonalds and shared war stories, US Dennis would be amazed about how long it took for UK Dennis to be reigned in by changing times and disgruntled parents…and promptly realize how it’s better for everyone involved that he’s as tame as he is. And UK Dennis can fire back stating that “Yeah, well my shtick’s been so funny my cousin Minnie’s been ripping it off since ‘53, and even though I despise my publisher’s self-plagiarism, it does remind me of something. When did your guy decide to show the states that lassies can get rough and tumble too?” “Uh, I think the ‘70s…maybe?”
ОтветитьOn a separate note from the UK vs US Dennis competition me and TheAshTube are doing, it’s intriguing how bleak and messed up punching down humor was until very recently across the board. If you compare Ren and Stimpy or Fairly OddParents to late ‘90s Beano, there’s a very similar edge. Though of course, the Beano can uniquely say they came up with that kind of somehow kid-oriented humor before anyone else.
ОтветитьI loved the beano growing up
ОтветитьLittle plumb is not racist
ОтветитьOK this is where I draw the line I mean you can I get Mickey Mouse was popular but you don’t need to give biffo a girlfriend. He’s better off on his own
ОтветитьBro look like toucan Sam
ОтветитьIsn’t commando still going, also we had Eagle and Dan Dare, also the US Denis was a poor imitation of the British classic.
ОтветитьI remember being 5 years old to 6 stuck in hospital and the chap with the concession trolley would come around but he would only have one copy and if he sold out I would get a nurse often the sister to take me to the concession box and get my copy, when my Nanny came to visit she would bring the Dandy and my great uncle who fought the Japanese in the war would bring commando .
ОтветитьI love this channel.
more please.
I posted a Christmas edition of the Beano to my three and a half year old grand nephew. It arrived after Christmas and before New Yerars Eve, He loved it and his mum and dad loved it too because the little fella loved having the stories read to him as he watched the great art work. and laugh his little head off! I was delighted when my neice told me how much he loved The Beano. I think they have subscribed!
ОтветитьThe Beano is old school. Long may it last.
ОтветитьBeano anuuals have been something I've read for a long time. But something I particularly enjoy are the dennis the menace books by Nigel Auchterlounie. He's done his fair share of books and I'm pretty sure he's the artist of the modern numbskulls comics. They have a bit of a more concrete story, whilst still feeling like you could only have one and the story would still make some sense. Basically they're told from the perspective of the in universe Nigel Auchterlounie (at least they seem to, anyway) after he made a deal with Dennis to be told one of Dennis's adventures in exchange for, something. Could be a foot ball, could be keeping an elephant dennis helped escape from the zoo. It actually ends up explaining some interesting things about the beano universe and why odd things happen so often (check out first one.) it's also the series I learnt that mini the minx is actually Dennis's cousin. (or more accurately, modern Dennis's cousin.) We also learn more about the mum of the original Dennis who actually grows up to be modern Dennis's dad which is fun. How his mum was basically a menace just like her son and grandson when she was 10. All in all a really great series to read if you're able.
ОтветитьThe issue of Topper you show at 1.04 is an American title, not the British one.
