A superb and very moving performance. Is it just me or is Martin Sadler's oboe not up to his usual high standard in the Qui Tollis ? Sounds very squeaky and forced, a contrast to Thomas Hobbs's sublime alto.

God is in the details, not the devil. This is why the works of J. S. Bach, so refined for all the instruments and voices of the soloists and the choir, together and separately, this is why Jos Van Veldhoven's heart genius in selecting the composition of the orchestra and conducting the whole, this is why the concentration of all participants of this wonderful work in the perfect performance of their part brings closer all performers and listeners to Divine, and therefore emotion reaches its zenith. I suspect that brilliant conductors like Van Veldhoven or Herreweghe have such a gift for influencing musicians that they perform their music from the heart.

Its so easy to forget just how many beautiful Masses Bach wrote in his life. His B Minor mass (and his 2 Passions) tends to blot out the rest of his liturgical repertoire.

Fred: I have been joyusly singing Bach in a great choral society and in church, but have not yet sung his Sanctus. What an incredible Christian composer. What a distinct privilege!

For some reason, the Gloria always reminds me of the Stand of the Swiss Guard, when in 1527, 150 Swiss Guards, almost the entire garrison, died fighting a hopeless battle against a far larger number of Roman soldiers wanting to kill the Pope in the Vatican. The deaths were not in vain though, The Pope did escape.

THAT BACH COULD WRITE RELIGOUS MUSIC FOR BOTH THE CATHOLIC AND PROTESTANT FAITHS IS A CREDIT TO HIS UNIVERSALITY AND GREAT SUBTLY OF MESSAGES.
THAT MANY OF THESE WORKS WERE INITIALLY PERFORMED WITHOUT PRIOR REHEARSALS IS A REFERENCE TO THEIR MULTABLE APPEAL.

I have performed a fair amount of choral music in my life, but regret that I never had the opportunity to learn this magnificent work. How beautifully performed by the orchestra and chorus and soloists. Absolutely beautiful! Thank you maestro Veldhoven.

I was totally unfamiliar with his G Minor Mass. I've known the B minor/two Passions/Oratorios - and a few Cantatas for many years! Johan Sebastian Bach was truly a gift to this world! Thank you NBS for your commitment and dedication in bringing us such beautiful and inspiriational performances!
