I watched an interview with the former SS soldier.

He talked about how he became a POW and how after the war he was sent to Adina notification training camp in England.

One day they were forced to watch a video One day the allied soldiers brought all the German POWs into the main hall to watch a movie.

The movie was supposed to show the horrors of the Holocaust and how evil the SS was.

During the movie they showed a pile of burned bodies on the street and the narrator announced that these were Jews burned by the Nazis.

The SS soldier says it was that moment s POW got up and the audience tears in his eyes his face completely red screaming "Those are not Jews. That is Dresden. Those are not Jews. I was there that is Dresden. The allies did this. You did this. Those are German bodies those are not Jews!"

Then two of the camp guards came up to either side of the man screaming and they dragged him out of the hall and everyone was sold to sit back down and watch the movie in silence.

The SS POW never saw the screaming man in camp again after that day.

Except they didnt. Most got jobs in government in both the east and west germany governments.

As a Norwegian i gotta say i knew some of what happend after WW2, in particular how the women dating germans, and the children of them("Tyskertøser" and "Tyskerbarn"), but had no idea what we did with POW with regards to mineclearing

I’ve noticed in the US that a lot of people still associate Germans with Nazis and often have negative feelings towards them. Even when I took German language class in high school, we were called Nazis. Eventually the class got ditched because kids stopped wanting to take it.
