In this video, we introduce a technique called “worry postponement” for managing worries. We encourage you to watch the video "Explaining the Vicious Cycle of Worry" before you watch this video. As you will see, the postponement technique is practised as part of an experiment to test out the client’s beliefs about the uncontrollability of her worry.
Handouts and worksheets on managing worry and rumination, including the “What? Me Worry!?!” workbook, are freely available here: https://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/Resources/Looking-After-Yourself/Worry-and-Rumination There is a standalone information sheet titled “Postpone Your Worry” that offers detailed instructions for worry postponement, as well as a corresponding worksheet for the client to record their observations from the experiment.
A corresponding clinician reflection exercise can be downloaded from our website as a companion to this video. Engaging in these reflection exercises will help you to maximise your learning, and can equip you to use the demonstrated principles in your own work: https://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/Training/Demonstration-Videos/Clinician-Reflection-Exercises
