How is total depravity true when many people appear to act morally and do good deeds?

Jesus criticized the Pharisees for doing good things the wrong way, only to be seen by people or with the wrong motives like the man said, in this video. So God judges differently than we do. Take note!

Depravity comes when reason is relinquished!

The doctrine of total depravity is a great evil!

Then why call it "total depravity" if it just means that you are only partly morally deprived rather than 100%.

In the past few years I’ve had the displeasure of realizing how many in America are grotesquely evil but think themselves good because they have nice possessions.

The other side would argue (since they won't likely be here themselves) that total depravity is total, and that would imply always totally depraved behavior.

Calvinsm is a false doctrine. Everyone has frewill to choose good over evil. As did Adam and Eve. These guys are clueless on what the bible means by ELECT and predestined.

Total depravity addresses the motive more than it does the act. We are to love the Lord thy God with heart, soul, mind and strength and then our neighbor. If your obedience to the moral standard isn't grounded in your love for God and thankfulness for who He is, His perfections and all that He has done for you in salvation then you are trying to merit His favor, and that is gross sin. Thus the pharisees were white washed tombs because outwardly they appeared to be good through their fastidious observance of the law but inwardly were full of death. As a parent, would you want your child to clean their room because they are thrilled with love for the parent who had sacrificed so much to give them life and to sustain them in that life, or would it be better that they did it because they were trying to merit that favor of yours (which can never be merited), or out of fear of punishment? So then the motive is equally important as the act and the motive cannot be changed except by regeneration. 
Neither do I agree with the idea of "common grace." Grace is not common, it is particular and extended only to the elect. There is rain that falls on the wicked and the just and there is clear control exercised by the Lord over the wicked so that their evil serves His good purpose but they will give an account of it in the end. How is that grace? It is much like the notion that God loves even the reprobate but then sends them to hell eternally. Strange love that.

Calvinism. Arminianism. Denominations. All doctrines and titles created by man. None of the them being found in the bible. Just isms made by men. Why not just call yourself a bible believer if that's what the bible has always preached? Why attach a man's name or a denomination to your spiritual identity? So much division that Christ is displeased with. Paul preached against this in his letters to the church. People literally arguing the details of their salvation. It's comical. Crazy some think the Holy Spirit would lead people to create the terms Calvinism and Arminianism and then debate and divide for the next several hundred years. Is there Paulism? Mosesism? Let's be real with ourselves. But hey if you think that's what Christ would be pleased with be my guest.

Total inability to respond positively to God is found nowhere in scripture.

Mankind has total moral depravity, completely separated from God Spiritually and is totally lost and helpless to save himself and would remain in his fallen state IF left on his own and UNLESS God took the first step and initiated the opportunity to be saved.

The scriptures teach total depravity and NOT total inability.

There’s not one verse you can show me that teaches total inability.

Total depravity yes.

Total inability NO.

Dead is NEVER SHOWN in the scriptures to mean MORAL INABILITY to respond to God’s truth.

Dead means SPIRITUALLY SEPARATED from the presence of God due to sin and the only way to get into His presence is through Christ.

Scripture supports a totally depraved man that is spiritually separated from God and obviously unable to save Himself.

This does NOT mean man is totally incapable of responding to Him.

If we were actually dead as reformers portray then we wouldn’t even be able to sin.

Slaves still have the ability to admit they’re a slave to the only One who can set them free.

Nowhere in scripture is spiritual deadness equated to an inability to respond positively to God’s Divine Initiative in sending His Son, sending His Holy Spirit, giving us His Word, speaking to us through other believers as ministers of reconciliation making His appeal through them, speaking to us through creation etc etc etc.

If our LORD at Calvary had decided HE couldn’t bear the humiliation, that the cost was to great, then left the entire race to perish in their sin. Would we still call HIM good and honor HIS Name?

Because even our best works don't even come close to satisfying the holiness of God.

The Pharisees were the moat righteousness but that is not enough for Jesus. We must exceed their righteousness.
